Subject: Hattie Black(?) From: foora@aol.com Date: 23 Aug 99 - 04:37 PM Hello, I'm looking for the lyrics to a song my dad used to scare the wits out of me with when I was a kid...I've tried searching, no luck...I don't remember most of the words, but I know it opened with something like: "Hattie Black lived in a backwater shack In the back of the Black Bayou". It goes on to talk about the nearby townfolk all dying from some kind of weird plague, and these folks go to ask Hattie for help, and then they vanish. That's all I remember. If anyone out there could help, I'd be extremely grateful :) Thanks, FooRa |
Subject: Hattie's Shack From: CraigP Date: 24 Nov 99 - 10:05 AM In the late 60's or early 70's there was a song called (I think) Hattie's Shack. It was about an herbal healer in a bayou swamp that saved a town from an epidemic. The chorus had the lyric '...Hattie's Shack in the back of the black bayou.' Other lyrics I remember were about the start of the epidemic- 'Doc Ellis was the first to go' and the cure 'bowl of bubbling goo'. It's not quite folk song material but I'd like to find the full lyrics. I encountered it a jukebox (45 rpm) in Panama City Florida in the summer of 1971 or 1972. Thanks- -Craig |
