Maeve, the comments to Iain Glover - The Roll Of The Sea says both "a wonderful rendition of the johnny collins classic" and "It was actually written by Alistair MacGillivray from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia". So you seem to have found the lyrics the original poster was too lazy to write down.

I saw that comment... but let's go gently, eh? The original poster may not be able to type the lyrics him or herself, or may not know how to search for them- my intention is to find the most informative links and information I can, to strengthen both the DT and the resource that is Mudcat.

Searanger, if you need further help please post here. If this is the correct song could you please confirm? You or I could post the lyrics here along with correct credits for others who are looking. Thank you.

Maeve

Thank you Maeve, your helpful comments are what to expect from this site NOT sarcastic comments as presented by Reinhard. Why can people not be more friendly as most who write are but there's always those who are basically ignorant and always will be, depends on one's upbringing.

I just noticed on Wiki that the correct song title is 'Away From the Roll of the Sea'. Search Youtube and there are many renditions of the beautiful song.

Whatever the case, if you're requesting a song, it's expected that you post what you already know, so people look for the right song, and to give people a head start if they have to transcribe the song.
Reinhard has posted far more than his fair share of songs, and some of our most prolific lyrics-posters get feeling that people take advantage of their generosity. I've never known Reinhard to be rude or sarcastic.
It does get frustrating when a requester furnishes nothing about a song but the title and the recording artist. Those who request without giving, are the ones more likely to be rude. I checked the version in the Digital Tradition (see link above), and it seems to be an accurate transcription.
