Hi all,
Announcing the long awaited new edition of the second book in the Marrow Bones series 'The Wanton Seed'.

After a long period of nothing happening after the book was made ready for publication some years ago South Riding Folk Network have taken on the job thanks to its members and some private donations.

It should be available for purchase by may 2015 at £12 +pp (cheaper than the first book 'Marrow Bones'). If ordered in advance even cheaper £10 +PP.

A website is being set up to deal with sales but pre-ordering can be done by contacting the prime mover Ron Day ronaldday(at)talktalk.net

Another great little songbook available again. I've had some good stuff from this in my time. Well done Steve and SRFN.

If Dick sees this I'm sure he will contact Ron and arrange something but if you can't wait for that to happen you'll have to have it sent by post from Ron. If Dick doesn't spot it here no doubt he'll see it on the Ballad-list.

I think my copies of the old editions are wedged in a corner of a bookcase to prevent them falling apart! Dreadful binding of excellent material...

Regards

Hi Martin,
I can understand that. They were pocket-sized and could be carried about easily, but very small print and hard to keep open at a page because of the tight binding. Of my 4 copies the last one 'Foggy Dew' fell apart quickly as it was glued, not folded or stitched pages. The others I've probably been through several copies but all the ones I have left are reasonably intact.

Really Good news - looking forward to seeing the new edition.
My old Wanton Seed is falling apart, and has been for years.

Are US Mudcatters interested in getting this book from CAMSCO, or am I the only one?

-Joe-

Here's the listing IanC has for the Purslow books in our Basic Folk Library PermaThread:

PURSLOW, FRANK (ed) "Marrow Bones" (EFDSS Publications, 1965)
PURSLOW, FRANK (ed) "The Wanton Seed" (EFDSS Publications, 1968)
PURSLOW, FRANK (ed) "The Constant Lover" (EFDSS Publications, 1972)
PURSLOW, FRANK (ed) "The Foggy Dew" (EFDSS Publications, 1974)
Four books of songs, mainly from Dorset and Hampshire, from the Hammond and Gardiner collections, which were influential for the post-war revival and remain very useful; some of the texts and tunes are emended, but this is indicated in the notes.
Rumour has it that these books are to be reprinted by EFDSS in September 2001.

It has appeared. Congratulations to Steve Gardham, and to the late Malcolm Douglas, who also did the revision
