Subject: BS: Leaf season From: olddude Date: 25 Oct 14 - 01:52 PM Tis the time of year. Everyone knows a sick or elderly neighbor. Grab a rake and get to it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Leaf season From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 25 Oct 14 - 01:55 PM Good reminder. Not everyone can afford to hire cleanup. |
Subject: RE: BS: Leaf season From: olddude Date: 25 Oct 14 - 02:24 PM Yup and if can do it five months after open heart anyone can. My neighbor is 98 bless her she was out trying to rake |
Subject: RE: BS: Leaf season From: gnu Date: 25 Oct 14 - 04:23 PM Good on ya, Dan. On a side note, some old crotchety bugger sent a letter to NB Liquor and complained about the spoiled brat teenagers at the liquor stores with their hands out for donations to do nothing constructive when they should be doing just what you said and, IF the old person flips them a couple of bucks, great but if not, at least they would learn the feeling of helping out. Unfortunately, NB Liquor went apeshit and said NO to all of them. That includes CNIB guide dogs, cadets, Search & Rescue, health foundations, local volunteer groups... lots of them that actually do some good rather than brain dead teenagers that think I should sponsor their fuckin volleyball team for a trip around the world. Now I wish that crotchety old bugger had kept my mouth shut. |

Subject: RE: BS: Leaf season From: Ed T Date: 25 Oct 14 - 07:58 PM I live in an urban area, where the city cleans up most of the out-front leaves once a year , as they own most of the trees. If you rake up the leaves too early, there are a similar amount replacing them from the wind the next day-especially if some neighbours don't do the same thing. But, it eventually works out that leaves are eventually removed, by one route or another. Snow removal is a bigger challenge to those less able to clear it away, or pay someone to remove it. My observation is neighbours do pitch in (without being asked) to help those folks out. |
Subject: RE: BS: Leaf season From: LadyJean Date: 25 Oct 14 - 08:07 PM I shovel my next door neighbor's walk. (He's pushing 90) Maybe I should do his leaves too. Thanks. |
Subject: RE: BS: Leaf season From: Bill D Date: 25 Oct 14 - 09:28 PM I AM the elderly neighbor, but so far am able to do my own leaves and snow clearing. I used to mow & blow for my even older lady next door. I have a large, hilly, tree covered lot and quite a few leaves. Not sure how many more years I can do this. |
Subject: RE: BS: Leaf season From: Janie Date: 26 Oct 14 - 12:02 AM From now until mid January, every weekend will be leaves, leaves, leaves. Largish town lot full of trees, mostly oak, which take their time falling. If I lived in the country I would leave them alone and let the land slowly revert to woodland again. Town or country, this is a heavy mast year, and it is hard to walk anywhere without feeling like one is on roller skates with all the acorns underfoot. Need a hard hat (really!) to walk out when the wind is blowing. I'm fortunate. Since my son moved out and is not available to help I save enough on the food bill to pay some one to come every other week to assist:>) |
