Next year is a great year. 1215 anniversary of Magna Carta; 1415 anniversary of Azincourt; 1714 Jacobite rebellion; 1815 anniversary of Waterloo. Then we have the 65 years. 1665 anniversary of Plague; 1865 founding of Salvation Army. 1945 End of W.W.II

Having nearly completed finding and learning tunes for my Irish Counties I am now on the ramble through the traditions for songs appropriate to the above. Anyone joining me

There's a crusader tune or two of Richard I's, and then you need to look through the back catalogue of tunes inspired by John's ma Eleanor of Aquitaine. Synfonie have done several relevant albums. You need to look for texts on social right, there are some.

1500th anniversary of the foundation of the Abbey of St Maurice in Switzerland, which introduced the practice of "laus perennis" into Western Europe (perpetual prayer, i.e. you get the monks to sing in shifts 24/7).

500th anniversary of the foundation of the Khanate of Khiva, the city of Havana and Manchester Grammar School.

1000th anniversary of the invasion of Egnland by Cnut the Great of Demnark. There appear to be Danish songs about it:
