Subject: RE: etta? From: michaelr Date: 02 Nov 14 - 01:51 PM Aretha Franklin covers "At Last" on her latest record "Sings the Diva Classics". I was privileged to see Etta James perform once in the 80s. She sang "Your Cheatin' Heart", and I remember to this day the chills that ran down my spine at the line "YOU'LL WALK THE FLOOR" - delivered with a power and menace that no country singer could rival. Etta was an elemental force. RIP. |

Subject: RE: etta? From: wysiwyg Date: 01 Nov 14 - 09:06 AM Joe I like etta too. My cookie seems not to survive the shock of awe tho. ~S~ |
Subject: RE: etta? From: Vic Smith Date: 01 Nov 14 - 04:58 AM Joe, My comment of 31 Oct 14 - 01:51 PM was intended as a joke with no inkling that it may have been somewhere near the truth. Vic Smith Third fan of Etta James to be identified on this thread. |
Subject: RE: etta? From: Joe Offer Date: 31 Oct 14 - 06:57 PM Max is a fan of Etta James, 1938-2012, so he named our newest server after her. Here's a performance of what was probably her most famous song, "At Last."I wonder if she did her performing from a wheelchair for a long time, or if it was only in her last year or so of life. I'm a fan, too. Wish I had seen her perform in person. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: etta? From: Jack Campin Date: 31 Oct 14 - 02:15 PM If "awe" is still going, it means Max is using multiple servers for load balancing or redundancy. Which is pretty darn clever, particularly as it's almost invisible to ordinary users. Great job. |
Subject: RE: etta? From: GUEST,Anne Neilson Date: 31 Oct 14 - 02:05 PM Where you're getting 'etta', I've got 'awe'. What can it all mean? |
Subject: RE: etta? From: Jack Campin Date: 31 Oct 14 - 02:05 PM It used to be "awe". There is some Javascript in the homepage that gets stuff from the domain "etta.mudcat.org". There is an identical function that does the same stuff using the domain "mudcat.org". Both involve Chartbeat, about which I know nothing except that blocking it makes Mudcat run a lot faster. |
Subject: RE: etta? From: Vic Smith Date: 31 Oct 14 - 01:51 PM Etta James? |
Subject: etta? From: Mr Happy Date: 31 Oct 14 - 01:25 PM On the main M/cat page, at the top, just above where it says 'Personal Page' is the word 'etta' What is the significance of this? |
