Way to go, Democrats!

Get a bottle of Champaigne for tomorrow night and celebrate!

The unintentionally funniest ad I've seen is R Paul for Scott Brown (a carpetbagger who was un-elected in Mass so he thought he'd try NH.) Wish the "leaving-the-hell-alone" part started prior to the ad.

We in the UK have a significant by-election looming later in November, in Medway - the renegade conservative Mark Reckless left the conservative party to join UKIP so triggering a by-election, and there is great concern that he may be re-elected as a UKIP MP.

For the benefit of the colonies, UKIP is a bit like the conservatives but further right and even less intelligent and more xenophobic. It is rabidly opposed to the European Union and immigrants. Its senior members want to accelerate the privatisation of the NHS, it supports flat taxation, and opposes the welfare state in all its forms. Its leader pretends to challenge the establishment, but is a public schoolboy (that's "privately educated") and a financier and banker.

In short UKIP has the brains of Sarah Palin without the looks.

He is and UKIP are backed by "Britain First" - paramilitary idiots, total grunts, knuckledraggers who wear an almost military uniform, drive armoured vehicles, and bully old and female Muslims on their own, but run a mile if offered real opposition.

I keep being pulled hither and thither. On the one - and bigger - hand I think it is essential that Democrats keep their majority in the US Senate. On the other - and sneakier - hand I keep thinking it would serve the Republicans right if they were to be held responsible. Republicans are very good at saying what they are against. What they are for, not so much.

In 2016 I expect my bemusement will only worsen.

An editorial in the Army Times, October 13, 2014...the Army Times!!! (I'm glad I've already voted.)

"In recent years, members of both the House and Senate have habitually carped about President Obama usurping Congress by making decisions and taking action without expressly consulting them- as he's done in launching airstrikes on Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria.

"But if lawmakers are feeling bypassed and marginalized, they have only themselves to blame. With partisan polarization still at fever pitch on Capitol Hill, the legislative branch can't find even a sliver of common ground to carry out its most routine responsibilities
to manage the nation's finances - much less show leadership on
quick-burning, fast moving international crises.

"And so, eight weeks into the bombing campaign against the Islamic State, we have the tragicomic spectacle of Congress still dithering about whether, and when, to awake from its torpor to vote to authorize the use of military force in the Middle East. Some lawmakers want-to take such a vote before the November mid-term elections and attach the use-of-force legislation to another, larger bill, perhaps the defense appropriations or authorization bill. Others want to punt the issue to the new Congress that will convene in January. None seem willing to acknowledge the obvious: The world moves very fast these days, and this train has left the station.

"The real reason lawmakers are avoiding this vote is because they are loathe to go on public record on such a hot-button issue ahead of the upcoming elections. It's one of the more egregious recent examples of Congress putting self-interest above duty.

"If lawmakers truly want to play a role in overseeing the interests
of our nation and the welfare of our soldiers, sailors, airmen and
Marines, they are free to engage at any time."

What Joe F. said. Except here in NC, new election laws, among other restrictive provisions, no longer permit simple straight party voting.

Also here in NC keeping my eyes, fingers, arms, legs and general disposition crossed for Kay Hagan. Who I don't even like much. Gonna be a squeaker.

We three voted. Va is proposing another constitutional amendment, which I am against kind of on principle (there are very few things I think we have a *constitutional* right to, and those other things should be legislated, imho) but ended up having an interestingly educated discussion with the twins (now 19!) about whether going around legislation could be a good idea when legislation is not happening, as it isn't right now...

The Republicans might win control of the Senate. If they do, I'm not sure whether I hope they'll immediately start introducing nasty, conservative bills... which Obama will immediately veto... or whether I hope they'll just sit back & wait 2 years in hopes of getting a Republican president. I expect they won't be able to resist inventing horrendous bills that Democrats like, but with amendments that we don't like.

(I voted today... they didn't need crowd control... *sigh*)

Subject: RE: BS: Elections: Tues. Nov. 4th
From: GUEST,Why I won't vote today
Date: 04 Nov 14 - 06:09 PM

I've been given a choice--Democrat or Republican--and I can't vote for either party. Especially when I know the following three things:

1) Most laws the government passes are illegal. The Supreme Court decided over 200 years ago in Marbury vs. Madison that any law which violates the constitution is void upon its passage. The same goes for court decisions--if they violate the constitution they are void upon their issuance. If I know that, why don't our politicians? Short answer, they do. I can't vote for people who would knowingly violate the constitution in defiance of Marbury vs. Madison.

2) September 11. Six of the ten members of the Kean Commission refused to sign their report after they "investigated" the events of 9/11. The report was a cover-up. And according to law, if you take part in a crime after its commission (like through a cover-up), then you are guilty of that crime. Therefore, the U.S. government is guilty of the 9/11 attacks. And everyone in Washington knows it. How can I vote for people who took part in the 9/11 attacks?

3) Disappearing children. 47,000 children disappeared at the U.S./Mexican border in 2013-2014. Why doesn't the government investigate that? Plenty of media attention is given to the shooting of one young man in Missouri, but the media can't look into the disappearance of 47,000? What happened to the children? Are they working in sweatshops? Sex slaves? Human sacrifices? Again, if I know about this situation, then so do the people in government. And failure to pursue the issue makes them responsible for each individual disappearance.

So instead of voting this time around I'm writing this. I'm telling you, we have a criminal government. Our politicians (all of them) knowingly vote for illegal laws, cover up the crimes of September 11, and refuse to pursue possible human slave traffickers. I can't endorse any of that with a vote, and all I can think to do is publicly condemn the criminals who want me to approve of their actions.

While Hagan has an early slim lead, (NC) those districts that are completed are in areas of the state that could be somewhat predicted to go narrowly for Hagan. Definitely a nail biter.

Looking at the map of counties that have not yet reported, along with the current 9000 vote lead by Tillis, not looking good for Hagan. Sadly predict that Tillis will win by a nose.

Whatever happens, it won't be the end of the world, nor the dawn of a new world (at least I hope not-in either case.) Doesn't have to be, but that depends on how philosophical vs ideological and or/unconscious people choose to be in terms of the meaning they make.

AS foretold, by yours truly, that if the liberals didn't hold the Obama administration accountable, and just went along with the lies, and deceptive talking points, that the liberals would be set back for YEARS!
So, you can thank the 'so-called liberals', who are just empty shells, full of talking points, even when they are defending and promoting out-front lies, for this slaughter....in case you haven't heard, Republicans picked up 7, possibly 8 (Alaska pending) Senate seats, and 10 Congressional seats and a slug of Governorships, across the country...and to paint this as anything other that a referendum on Obama, and his inept, and corrupt administration, is just nothing but 'so-called liberal' spin.
The scary thing is, now we have possibly a hawkish backlash...and new pigs to feed at the trough.
Regardless, now the people have spoken...and guess what?....They are telling you the same thing I've been telling you....and BTW, the Republicans DIDN'T even have a platform to run on....Obama did it to himself AND the liberals!

Next time, listen!

America joins the third world. A world where racial prejudice is the norm.

To quote some of another politician's words -

I warn you that you will have pain – when healing and relief depend upon payment. I warn you that you will have ignorance – when talents are untended and wits are wasted, when learning is a privilege and not a right. I warn you that you will have poverty – when pensions slip and benefits are whittled away by a government that won't pay in an economy that can't pay. I warn you that you will be cold – when fuel charges are used as a tax system that the rich don't notice and the poor can't afford.

I warn you that you must not expect work – when many cannot spend, more will not be able to earn. I warn you not to go into the streets alone after dark or in protest in the light. I warn you that you will be quiet – when the curfew of fear and the gibbet of unemployment make you obedient. I warn you that you will be home-bound – when fares and transport bills kill leisure and lock you up.

I warn you not to be ordinary. I warn you not to be young. I warn you not to fall ill. I warn you not to get old.

Sour grapes!....The 'so-called liberals' have crashed and burned...they had their chance and muffed it...now all they can do is slur those who told them this would happen...even those who warned them that this would happen.
It just goes to show that their ideological brain-lock is REALLY out of sync with what is really going on!...as in delusional!
Some of Obama's actions(or inactions) I agreed with....he just shouldn't have lied and deceived so much....and the rest of the country seems to agree.
The Republican landslide can only be blamed on this.
Perhaps some of you should open your eyes, and stop trying to ram through policies out of emotional frenzies, like the 'War on Women', 'racism' and made up notions of 'bigotry'...and then bullshitting about it....nobody is buying that crap.
You should have insisted on more honesty, less partisan divide, less ineptness, and less ruling against the will of the people. You're out of touch to even pay much attention to!
But, as I've said numerous times before, the corrupt political machine, like a boxer, hits you with a 'right' then a 'left'..and as long as you target the hands, you won't knock out that same boxer!..OK, we got beat up by the 'left', now we're going to get beat up by the 'right'.
Hope you're all satisfied....you got what you deserve because you're so blind!

You know, I would love to think that the Republican legislature will gather itself up and decide upon accomplishments. Mitch McConnell made the pitch for it last night and if he and the Congress followed through we could at long last see progress. I would be happy to see the Repubs get the credit- if it meant that the country would benefit.

I suppose from our side of the pond, we try to see your two parties as mirroring our own, but the reality is that Democrats are similar to our Conservatives and Republicans are similar to our conservatives if they weren't reined in.

Rightly or wrongly, the republicans are seen as the loony end of the spectrum, which is odd because to be fair, many of my business colleagues have been active members or supporters yet their social and welfare policies towards their employees could put themost ethical UK companies to shame.

Politics of another country are difficult to fathom, hell, our own is bad enough... But the idea of a stalemate and nothing being done over the next two years is rather worrying considering how, like it or not, US interference elsewhere means your government can be as influential as our own in some areas of trade, commerce and foreign policy.

Hence whilst it is nothing to do with us, I can't help having a view. (I do have a right of residency through business investments, but no vote. I suppose I personally can be affected? My problem, but still concerned for y'all.)

Can't hear the rocks banging! Do keep up.

This was the destruction of the Democratic party. Voters realized that Republicans can provide the same type of fascism as the Democrats, but with lower taxes.

It will be hard to believe in the Democrats again, at least in their social safety net claptrap. Democrats are corporatists, same as Republicans. And they just paid the price for pretending to be otherwise.

It looks as if the race card finally flew out the window in this election. South Carolina elected a black senator. South Carolina, the starting point of the American Civil War and still (according to liberals) a hotbed of racism, elected a black Senator. So much for racism.
