Subject: RE: Chord Req: When Paddy Stole the Rope From: Thompson Date: 13 Nov 14 - 03:55 AM Ah, an English song mocking supposed Irish criminality and stupidity. Yes, of course that should be revived. Not. |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: When Paddy Stole the Rope From: MartinRyan Date: 13 Nov 14 - 04:31 AM I'm reminded of being at a conference in the North of England, way back in the '70's at the height of the IRA campaign in Britain. Some of the delegates, knowing I was Irish, asked "What do Irish people think of those dreadful 'Irish jokes'?". I answered - "They tell them about Kerrymen!". "And what do the Kerrymen do?", they asked. "Put them in books and sell them to Englishmen!", sez I. I was marginally gilding the lily - the main compiler of such books was from Cork! Regards. |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: How Paddy Stole the Rope From: Thompson Date: 14 Nov 14 - 03:04 AM Ah yes, of course. Plenty of jokes about places we want to patronise; I tell them myself. (Why do Cavan people eat their dinner in a drawer? In case a visitor calls.) But I found that song pretty unpleasant. |
