Subject: Permission Req: John Bell 'Deep Blue Sea'
From: GUEST,Erik Saras
Date: 02 Dec 14 - 01:54 PM

Hello folk song enthusiasts! I am a NYC based composer looking to get in touch with John Bell, lyricist to the traditional song "Deep Blue Sea," made popular by The Weavers. I am seeking permission to use Mr. Bell's copyrighted lyrics, and would greatly appreciate any help in obtaining his contact information, or contact information for his representatives. Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance,
Erik

If it's the one about Willy getting drownded, I don't think you need to find John Bell.
Look here.

Hi Robyn,

Unfortunately, the John Bell lyrics have some slight alterations, which we were hoping to use.

Deep blue sea, baby deep blue sea,
Deep blue sea, baby deep blue sea,
Deep blue sea, baby deep blue sea,
Deep blue sea, baby deep blue sea,
And now there's peace, through all the land,
And all the deep blue sea.

Yesterday, war clouds hung so low,
Yesterday, war clouds hung so low,
Yesterday, war clouds hung so low,
Yesterday, war clouds hung so low,
And now there's peace, through all the land,
And all the deep blue sea.

Love of life, finally turned the tide,
Love of life, finally turned the tide,
Love of life, finally turned the tide,
Love of life, finally turned the tide,
And now there's peace, through all the land,
And all the deep blue sea.

Sleep my child, you are safe and sound,
Sleep my child, you are safe and sound,
Sleep my child, you are safe and sound,
Sleep my child, you are safe and sound,
And now there's peace, through all the land,
And all the deep blue sea.

Deep blue sea, baby deep blue sea,
Deep blue sea, baby deep blue sea,
Deep blue sea, baby deep blue sea,
Deep blue sea, baby deep blue sea,
And now there's peace, through all the land,
And all the deep blue sea,
And now there's peace, through all the land,
And all the deep blue sea.

As you can see, it is a bit different. Thank you for the original song information, though!
