Subject: Selling a Fylde Bouzouki From: MickT Date: 02 Mar 15 - 09:50 AM I have a Fylde bouzouki for sale, and am wondering the best place to advertise what is a fairly specialised instrument. The immediate thought was to put it on Ebay, but will I reach my target audience there? Ideally I'd like someone to collect (I live in NW Kent). What does the team think? |
Subject: RE: Selling a Fylde Bouzouki From: GUEST,Ray Date: 02 Mar 15 - 10:08 AM Mandolin Cafe is probably the best bet. Although it a mainly US site it does have many users on this side of the Atlantic. Mandolin YK is a UK based site with a classified section but it does tend to be very quiet at the best of times. On both sites you have to be a member to sell in the classifieds and I think on Mandolin Cafe you have to have posted in the fora a certain number of times. Other than this, I think Trevor at TAMCO in Brighton will sell on consignment. |
Subject: RE: Selling a Fylde Bouzouki From: Musket Date: 02 Mar 15 - 01:09 PM Most serious people trawl eBay too, and the true value of instruments is often reached, as I have found when putting a cheeky low limit on my bids.... |

Subject: RE: Selling a Fylde Bouzouki From: MickT Date: 03 Mar 15 - 03:10 PM Mine is in excellent cosmetic and playing condition, and has spent most of its life in the case. Has under saddle pickup and hard case, bought in late 90's. Can be tuned octave or unison, GDAD or GDAE. I was hoping bidding would go up to £550 or thereabouts......(new Octavius Bouzouki costs £1250). |
Subject: RE: Selling a Fylde Bouzouki From: GUEST,stringz Date: 03 Mar 15 - 09:24 PM Pix? , I know, sound is more important, and I am aware of Fylde's reputation, but I'd love to see it. |
Subject: RE: Selling a Fylde Bouzouki From: Musket Date: 04 Mar 15 - 04:51 AM In good nick and to someone buying it who knows the reputation of Fylde and the increasing tonal quality with age Roger's instruments manage, I'd be happy money wise at £550 but would reckon the buyer got a bit of a bargain. |

Subject: RE: Selling a Fylde Bouzouki From: MickT Date: 04 Mar 15 - 10:44 AM That's some good points made... I'm leaning towards Ebay now (even though they take 10%) because of the possibilities of the price going up in the bidding process (assuming I get some bidders)! Point about the buyer getting a bit of a bargain noted; I assume therefore that age is not a barrier to value. There's a couple of successful sales of Fylde instruments recorded on Ebay where the seller started off at 99p and got over £600! I'm not sure I would have the courage to start my lovely bouzouki off at 99p! However, now I have read up on it properly, I understand that what you would do in this situation is set a reserve price, so you don't sell below the price you want. As you can see I'm not a seasoned Ebayer! So my main task is to set my reserve price correctly. |
Subject: RE: Selling a Fylde Bouzouki From: GUEST,Robin Twatt Date: 04 Mar 15 - 12:12 PM Spot on MickT - always set a good reserve. And a decent starting price so punters don't have to fart around with £1 raises. Best of luck. |
