From: GUEST,Fantum

Does your brown ale lose it's flavour in the bed pan overnight
Do you wish you'd never supped it when you stagger home half tight
Does your bladder feel inflated are you up and down all night
Does your brown ale lose it's flavour in the bed pan overnight

That's something near the words to the the chorus as I recall.
I just can't seem to find it. I have the variants but not this one
Don't worry about chewing gum or spearmint I have them.
Any help will be appreciated

Many thanks Fantum

"Another added verse that I think was used at one time by a beer company to
advertize is below. Maybe Bill Horne will know if it was Red Dog 8^):
Does your brown ale loose it's flavour in the bed pan overnight?
Do you wish you hadn't drunk it when you stagger home half tight?
Does your bladder feel exhausted when you're up and down all night?
Does your brown ale loose it's flavour in the bedpan overnight?"

I found the above at

No, written by Eddie MacIntyre the Silver Fox ofJarrow in the mid 60s- it's been in my reoertoire almost since then- thanks for reminding me of it- am busy just now but if no-one's come up in a few days, I'll post the lyrics. I asked Eddie if it was OK to record it a few years ago- he said
'Yes, but you better be quick as Jennifer Lopez is after it as well'

Recycling is generally a good idea, but I do think it can be taken a bit too far....

My thoughts have been perusing, why do men go boozing,
Do they stop to think on the ill - effects of drink?
Each night they're on the pop, their life span can't be long,
The answer to my question, is it right or is it wrong?
CH
Does your Brown Ale lose its flavour in the bedpan overnight?

Does your Brown Ale lose its flavour in the bedpan overnight?

I've drunk all kinds of hops, I've drunk all kinds of slops,
From Export to Pale Ale, it's landed me in jail,
Drinking's brought me sorrows, drinking's brought me joys,
I know what you're all saying, it'll bring me haemorrhoids,

Beer is the cause of sin, with whisky, rum and gin,
As you know very well, will lead you all to Hell,
Satan gets the sinners, the old uns and the new uns,
I know that you're all praying that the Devil sells McEwan's.

Yes Eddie MacIntyre - over to you Jim to improve.

Did people really call it a bedpan? When I was a kid it was always the 'po' or the 'pisspot.'

"Bedpan" to complete the resemblance between it and the Lonnie Donegan song ' Does your chewing gum lose it's flavour on the bedpost overnight'. Yes, sorry about the confusion between the Eds, it's not the first time. Can anyone remember the words to 'The Dowdy Streets of Jarrow'? Definitely an Eddie MacIntyre song.

Hi there this is Ed Pickford. Here are as many of the lyrics of The 'Dowdy Streets of Jarrow' I can remember. Feel free to organise them as you wish.

THE DOWDY STREETS OF JARROW
[A parody on the Dowy Dens of Yarrow]

There is a tale I'll sing about
A tale of grief and sorrow
About a girl from Felling Square
Who was courting strong in Jarrow

The lady went to see her da
And said that on the morrow
That she would wed that teddy boy
On in the dowdy street of Jarrow

Oh daughter dear my daughter dear
Why can't you find another?
Or you'll end up a right owld drudge
Like did your dear old mother

The brother called his gang to him
And said that on that morrow
That they would "do" that teddy boy
On the dowdy streets of Jarrow

The ted he walked up through the close
Where the streets are broad and narrow
And there he spied 9 Felling lads
Come to do him in - in Jarrow

Well there he flew and there he slew
And there he wounded saely
Til her brother John came in beyond
And licked him most unfairly

His belt lay round his bleeding fist
He was beaten to a shadow
And there he lay all broken and torn
On the dowdy streets of Jarrow

He called his lady unto him
To ease his grief and sorrow
But she's found another at the Drill Hall dance
While he lies dead in Jarrow

You can find more of my stuff if you type 'Ed Pickford' into a search engine. I did not include the parody in my songbook.
Best wishes always
Ed Pickford"
