Downloading radio programmes is not a facility generally offered by the BBC, though they make some programs available as 'podcasts'. It depends on who owns the copyright, I think. You can use get_iplayer to do it - it's a bit techy though.

As far as I can make out the newest iteration iPlayer can save a programme. Though if you pass the deadline the DRM (digital rights management) effectively wipes it. There is a deadline variously of a week or a month depending on their negotiations. Saving as an iPlayer thingy has the same deadline as listening. Podcasts are different in this respect. Notably Melvyn Bragg podcasts of his programmes. He must own the copyright.

Radio does seem to differ from TV in a few appropriate respects. But:

things seem to be set to moving on but the BBC pages don't reveal the evidence AFAIK

the BBC define their terms here so look for these magic words.

Try get_iplayer - Windows PVM version will do the job. You have about 6 days to download the prog. Failing that you can download within 30 days using get_iplayer in command mode and the unique pid of the programme. If overseas (outside UK) you can still download said programme but it will only be at 48kbps. You could set up a VPN (using say Hola) to pretend that you are in the UK and you'll get the UK version at a higher bit rate. BTW there's no DRM on radio progs.

The BBC won't provide all radio programmes as downloads until they can apply DRM to copyright material. At the moment their 'podcasts' are unprotected mp3. They are implementing new delivery systems - they call it 'audio factory' - to replace the hotch-potch of systems built up over the years and that will be capable of delivering DRM'd audio (HLS/AAC) to their iPlayer apps on various devices including mobile.

This may happen this year, but I've not seen a date. It's been delayed before.
