Subject: Obit: Well, not yet but - Don Thompson From: Richard Bridge Date: 16 Apr 15 - 03:24 PM I am told that Don Thompson is seriously ill. Apparently he was taken into hospital last week with intestinal problems. It is said that he is not conscious at the moment and the hospital are considering a move to a Hospice. One must sympathise with his wife Winnie. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Well, not yet but - Don Thompson From: Richard Bridge Date: 16 Apr 15 - 03:27 PM Further info is that it is rather worse than the above reveals. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Well, not yet but - Don Thompson From: GUEST,Dave the Gnome Date: 16 Apr 15 - 03:34 PM Oh 'eck, as they say around here. Only met Don once, at Moira, but he is a nice bloke. Hope the rumours of his demise are exaggerated. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Well, not yet but - Don Thompson From: The Barden of England Date: 16 Apr 15 - 04:04 PM I refrained from putting too much detail on Facebook in deference to Winnie Thompson but, as Richard says, Don has been diagnosed as terminal. That was the news that Winnie broke earlier today, and that he was to be moved to a Hospice. So no obit yet, but it doesn't look good. John Barden |
Subject: RE: Obit: Well, not yet but - Don Thompson From: Richard Bridge Date: 16 Apr 15 - 04:24 PM I've spoken at some length to the Wild Rover (or Clever Evil) - new-ish catters may not remember the man behind the names - and John is still underplaying it. Bear in mind that Don was 74 and had been suffering from emphysema for a considerable time, probably as a result of his previous long-term history of smoking, which is a hint. Winnie is herself only recently out of hospital, but it looks very possible for family to take up the slack - and in addition to help with Winnie's mother who lives nearby. And who must be getting on for telegram from the Queen time. The thread title has been changed to reflect Mr. Thompson's grave illness. It can revert back at some time in the future. ---mudelf |
Subject: RE: Don Thompson gravely ill, in hospice From: GUEST Date: 16 Apr 15 - 05:41 PM Don is a wonderful fellow. I have a CD he did and I really enjoy it. I hope a miracle happens, but if it doesn't, and anyone is speaking with him in person, please give him my warmest regards. Bruce Murdoch |

Subject: RE: Don Thompson gravely ill, in hospice From: GUEST Date: 16 Apr 15 - 09:13 PM Oh, bugger. Always enjoyed Don's playing and singing at the Seven Stars, at Orpington FC and other odd placed I'd encounter him in Kent. Nice bloke to chat to, too, though disagreed with him on quite a few things! |

Subject: RE: Don Thompson gravely ill, in hospice From: VirginiaTam Date: 17 Apr 15 - 11:34 AM This is very sad news. He and Winnie both were laudable contributors to the sing around session scene. Each had a way of keeping you on the edge of your seat as their respective performances unfolded. |
