Although I have the words both phonetical and actual, I have no idea what the song is about - other than the odd phrase but it could be about anything or have some deep connection I do not know about.

Can anyone enlighten me on the meaning of both the words and the singing of them.

I don't think Nil na la and ta na la are the same song Jack.

They are the same. They are both about a pub landlord who can't get a couple of drinkers to drink up and go home.

This is the song I mean.
It has the phrase - nil na la which I think means 'it's not yet morning'

By 'the same song' do you mean it is the same story?

O codlas fein, I dthigh areir
Is tuirseach treith, do bhi mo chuisle
Comhra beil, bhi acu go leir
M'ingean fein, is a boch ar buhle

(Chorus)
Ta na la, nil na la
Ta na la 'gus in a mhaidin
Nil 'na la dheara a ghra
Ach solus ard, ata sa ghealaig
2
Eir id sui, a fhir a tigh
Cuir do bhriste 'mut gootapaigh
Coinnigh suas cuideachta shuairc
Don chroi mhaith mhor, go
dtioch an mhaidin

3
N'eireodh im shui ar fear a tigh
'Sni cuirfeadh briste'mum na hata
Blas na braon, dem cuidse dighe
Ni raghaidh na gcrol, go dtioch an mhaidin

4
Ta an barraille thar a ceann
Is ni fheicim ann ach driodar dearg
Ta mo ghini ar an mbord
Is bim ag ol, go dtioch an mhaidin

Kevin Mitchell (grand singer from Derry in Northern Ireland) sings an English version of this song.

Chorus goes:-
There's the day.
It's not the day!
It is the day, the night is over.
It's not the day
Whate'er you say!
It's only the moon to guide the rover.

Ah, thank you - then it would seem to be safe for me to sing it - having been too close for comfort to the results of Irish politics I would not want to stir up trouble for myself.
