Subject: RE: fuddling folk hampton wick From: Leadfingers Date: 29 Apr 15 - 08:56 PM 'Fuddling Folk' rings a VERY faint bell Dick , but in 1985 I was mostly doing straight Pub Gigs and NOT doing a lot of stuff in Folk Clubs - Sorry ! |
Subject: RE: fuddling folk hampton wick From: GUEST Date: 30 Apr 15 - 04:11 AM There was a folk club at the Rose & Crown in the High St. (now closed). I recall seeing the Dead Sea Surfers there. It later became the home of Screaming Blue Murder comedy club hosted by an up and coming Eddie Izzard. Also did Salsa dance classes there so it must of been the cultural centre of Hampton Wick at that time :) phil |

Subject: RE: fuddling folk hampton wick From: GUEST,Dave Illingworth Date: 23 Oct 15 - 12:32 PM Yes , it was run by Miles and Sylvia Couchman ( a fine duo and lovely people). When they finally packed it in the Irish singer Enda Kenny ran it for a while (he is now in Australia). I did regular floor spots there and a couple of gigs. A lovely atmosphere and indeed a great pub as well. Only thing that put me off was a large mirror at the far end of performance area - luckily I usually sing with my eyes closed, but if you looked up you could see yourself in the mirror. I was in Hampton Wick a few months ago. The Rose and Crown now longer exists - in its place was a Chinese restaurant (now also closed). |
