Hi! im looking for shanty singers in montreal that would be interested in gathering semi-regularly (or perhaps there is already a group that does this i could join?) to sing and share.

though i have found interested people, so far no singers that have replied to my postings on craigslist have any shanty experience, and im hoping to find some that do, as my knowledge only goes so deep (see what i did there?).

I'd put this in a PM if you were a Mudcat member. It doesn't answer your question but is a suggestion. Because you have people who are interested, encourage them to come with lyrics and lead a song. I know many people here may be horrified at the idea of singing from printed lyrics instead of memorizing them, but it's an un-intimidating way for novices to begin.

In the meantime, maybe someone else will help you get in touch with experienced chantey singers near you!

But not at 2 am. We sleep from 10 pm to 9 am. more or less. Might go to the wheel club tonight - after Big Bang.

got my membership patch, im a made man!

a quick web search calls the mondays at wheel a hillbilly night, doesnt exactly sound shanty-ish, but if you say its all manner of musicians i suppose i might meet shantiers there? does it go till closing? im at work til 10:30 on mondays. maybe ill see you there next week!
