Subject: RE: BS: NY/Boston?DC late Sep-any suggestions? From: Joe Offer Date: 31 May 15 - 10:41 PM Hi, Hrothgar - Here's a link to the annual Getaway (click) of the Folklore Society of Greater Washington. Many Mudcatters have attended over the years, but it is not a Mudcat event. It's October 2-5, just south of Annapolis, Maryland. It would be nice to see you there. -Joe- |

Subject: RE: BS: NY/Boston?DC late Sep-any suggestions? From: DebC Date: 01 Jun 15 - 09:41 AM Not quite Boston, but the last weekend in September is a wonderful festival in New Bedford, MA called the Working Waterfront Festival John Roberts, Castlebay, Larry Kapan, Jon Campbell and and myself will be there. It's an excellent festival focusing on all things fishing. Deb Cowan |

From: maeve Date: 01 Jun 15 - 09:48 AM Hrothgar- I'd suggest you ask a moderator to move this thread upstairs, where you'll like find even more good suggestions added for your consideration. I can't imagine missing the Getaway or the "Working Waterfront Festival", were I so fortunate as to make your trip. Done! --mudelf |

Subject: RE: NY/Boston? DC late Sep-any suggestions? From: Leadfingers Date: 01 Jun 15 - 07:19 PM The main connection with Mudcat and FSGW Getaway is that Max is a member , along with a lot of other Catters , and The Getaway always has a good plug in here , and rightly so as it IS an excellent weekend of good company , good music and for some of us , not a lot of sleep ! |

Subject: RE: NY/Boston? DC late Sep-any suggestions? From: Bat Goddess Date: 03 Jun 15 - 11:00 AM Portsmouth, New Hampshire -- not that far from Boston. I lead Curmudgeon's weekly Press Room trad session every Friday from 4:30-ish to 9:00 p.m. We've been going strong for over 32 years with both songs and tunes. English, Scots, Irish, sea music... We also have a sea music singaround on the third Saturday of the month also at The Press Room from 3:30-7:30. And the Portsmouth Maritime Folk Festival is September 26th and 27th. Our headliners this year are The Johnson Girls and there's a great lineup of groups and individual performers. And it's all FREE. PMFF PM me for more information on anything. Linn |
Subject: RE: NY/Boston? DC late Sep-any suggestions? From: Hrothgar Date: 07 Jun 15 - 05:51 AM I see there is a separate thread regarding the program for the Getaway. Can anybody give me an indication of the accommodation costs? |
Subject: RE: NY/Boston? DC late Sep-any suggestions? From: maeve Date: 07 Jun 15 - 08:11 AM Hrothgar, here's a link to the Getaway info. FSGW Getaway At the bottom of that page is information for contacting Charlie Baum to inquire about this year's pricing. You could also send a PM to Nancy King here on MC. |
Subject: RE: NY/Boston? DC late Sep-any suggestions? From: Nancy King Date: 07 Jun 15 - 09:39 AM Getaway registration information (including costs) should be available by July 1. I expect prices will be just a few bucks higher than last year, due to rising costs. Do note that we have a scholarship fund. We have a fantastic lineup of invited guests this year -- Cindy Kallet and Grey Larsen, The Short Sisters, Sheila Kay Adams and the Scofflaws, Jill Rogoff, and Tim Radford will all be with us. The actual program schedule won't be ready until mid-September, but planning is going on right now. Check out this thread for more info about program planning. Y'all come! |
Subject: RE: NY/Boston? DC late Sep-any suggestions? From: Hrothgar Date: 16 Sep 15 - 04:49 AM Well, I have booked my ticket for the Getaway. I'll be travelling from New York, and it seems the best/cheapest way to get there is by bus or train to Annapolis, and it looks like a taxi from there. Is there any form of shuttle transport to the Getaway during the weekend? |
