Subject: HELP! need missing words From: Sarah Cardin Date: 18 May 97 - 11:56 PM I'm need some words to an old hymn. My first thought was that it might be in the Sacred Harp, but it isn't. Here's what I have: Verse 1 This old world is full of trial Full of trouble, weak and sore (missing line) Love will come to you the more Verse 2 We're all children of one father We're all brothers and sisters too If you cherish one another Love and pity will come to you Does anyone know this song? Are all the words right? And what is the missing line? Thanks! Sarah Cardin maevsec@europa.com |

Subject: RE: HELP! need missing words From: dick greenhaus Date: 15 Jun 97 - 08:45 PM Lyrics to Greensleeves are in the database. What Child is This came later, being one of many songs that appropriated a fine melody. That should be in the database, too. |
Subject: Lyr Add: THIS OLD WORLD From: Jim Dixon Date: 08 Mar 05 - 07:32 PM Found at a Unitarian web site: No. 315, THIS OLD WORLD This old world is full of sorrow, full of sickness, weak and sore. If you love your neighbor truly, love will come to you the more. We're all children of one family. We're all brothers, sisters, too. If you cherish one another, love and friendship come to you. This old world can be a garden, full of fragrance, full of grace. If we love our neighbors truly, we must meet them face to face. It is said now, "Love thy neighbor" and we know well that is true; This, the sum of human labor, true for me as well as you. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: This Old World From: GUEST,Charley Noble Date: 08 Mar 05 - 08:54 PM This song was also recorded on, I believe, the first GOLDEN RING Folk Legacy recording, back in the early 1960's. I'm surprised someone didn't nail it back in 1997. Sorry, Sarah. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: This Old World From: masato sakurai Date: 09 Mar 05 - 09:14 AM The lyrics are posted HERE (ADD: This Old World / I Will Arise and Go to Jesus). On the tune, see Lyr Req: Prodigal/I will arise. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: This Old World From: Charley Noble Date: 09 Mar 05 - 09:20 AM Yes, I was correct "This Old World" was recorded on GOLDEN RING in 1964 by Folk Legacy, led by Howie Mitchell. Howie only sings two verses and then repeats the first verse. His second verse is slightly different: We're all children of one Father; We're all brothers and sisters too; If you cherish one another, Love and pity will come to you. Howie said that this text came from an old shape-note hymn "Mercy, Oh Thou Son of David" that he learned from a Bernie Lourie while attending Cornell University. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
