I hadn't appreciated the extent & variety of James Horner's work...thank you, 'guest from sanity'. I firmly believe that some of the best 20th & 21st century music has been written by composers scoring for film. James Horner was right up there with the best...melodically lyrical, harmonically rich, beautifully judged orchestrations. An irreplaceable Musician Par Excellence.
With Great Sadness & Huge Respect,
                                                                                                       Nigel Paterson.

There was a time when the Church was the main patron of new music. Then it moved to the nobility. In the last 100 years, cinema has been a major patron of orchestral music, both in terms of funding and in terms of providing an audience to appreciate the material.
