Subject: Come All Ye Bold Miners concert From: GUEST,Hartlepool Folk Festival Date: 02 Jul 15 - 10:25 AM On Saturday 17 October, Hartlepool Folk Festival commemorates the 30th anniversary of the end of the Miners strike with a special event. Come All Ye Bold Miners is a concert inspired by the song anthology of the same name, collected by AL Lloyd. It features Dick Gaughan and Durham Miners Association Brass Band, as well as performers including Pete Wood and The Wilsons. Three people who contributed songs to the book, Bert Draycott, Ed Pickford and Johnny Handle, will also perform. The concert takes place in St Hilda's Church on the Hartlepool Headland. Two screenings during the weekend will be on a similar theme: Death of a Miner, the BBC's 1967 film about Jack Elliott of Birtley, and 2014's Still the Enemy Within. The latter is funded by the Coalfields Regeneration Trust and is free for all to attend. Tickets are available from www.hartlepoolfolkfest.co.uk |
Subject: RE: Come All Ye Bold Miners concert From: GUEST,Anne Neilson Date: 02 Jul 15 - 12:35 PM This sounds like a wonderful event -- both musically and politically -- but JUST too far away….. All good wishes for a night of passionate engagement and real feelings. |
Subject: RE: Come All Ye Bold Miners concert From: GUEST,Fred McCormick Date: 02 Jul 15 - 01:21 PM It's too far to travel and I'm away doing something else that weekend, but I will certainly be there in spirit. BTW., did anyone see Denis Skinner on Prime Ministers' Question, haranguing David Cameron over the government's alleged misuse of the miners's pension fund. Talk about going purple in the face - Skinner that is, not Cameron. |
Subject: RE: Come All Ye Bold Miners concert From: Bonzo3legs Date: 02 Jul 15 - 01:25 PM I would rather support a "Come all ye tax avoiders" concert!!! |
Subject: RE: Come All Ye Bold Miners concert From: GUEST,Fred McCormick Date: 02 Jul 15 - 01:56 PM Bonzo. We all support tax dodgers, sorry, tax avoiders. We have to, simply because if they don't pay their fair share of taxes, we're the poor suckers who make up the revenue shortfall. Concert for tax avoiders? I'd rather support a public hanging for tax avoiders, and for anyone who supports their devious and dishonest behaviour. |
