The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat. Awakenings. I am saddened knowing there will be no more of his marvelous written insights into the human mind through its fascinating malfunctions.

He was a lovely man, as is clear from his books and Television appearances.

And a very music oriented man too.

"It really is a very odd business that all of us, to varying degrees, have music in our heads."
― Oliver Sacks, Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain"

A fascinating book.

A life well lived.

A scientist who respected his research subjects, and never lost sight of their value and individuality.

It is the rare researcher who can do that.

Sacks also wrote some very good articles about living with the death sentence of incurable cancer
This is one of the articles:

Wrote good books about his family, chemistry, breaking a leg, colour blindness.

Everything he ever wrote about anything seemed to be worth reading, and wakes echoes in yiur mind and leaves traces behind you are glad to have.

Here's a rather lovely piece about Oliver Sacks I thought I'd draw attention to

It's by his lover and partner of many years, Bill Hayes, and it tells of two incidents in the last months before Oliver died.

That is wonderful, not only because it is Sacks, but because it happened at Julius' and in that neighborhood. It's a sophisticated and generous clientele at that bar, a group who totally appreciated Oliver Sacks, and as generally older men themselves, would have had the demeanor that put him at ease. That last 30 minute conversation at the lamppost would have been such a gift!

That book mentioned in there, On the Move, is quite a read. Well, so are all his books, but this one's a bit different.

Here's the cover with the picture that's mentioned
