Subject: RE: September Press Room (NH) Shanty Sing From: Bat Goddess Date: 20 Sep 15 - 11:57 AM Small, but very vocal session. And we were a pleasant surprise for a couple who moved to Portsmouth about a year ago and hadn't yet found their kind of music. Glad we could supply it! (And let them know about the weekly Friday session AND next weekend's Portsmouth Maritime Folk Festival). The crew was me (Linn Schulz nom de Mudcat Bat Goddess), Emery Hutchins, Charlie Ipcar (Charley Noble), Judy Barrows, Tami Bill (Ranger1), Sue Young, Gail & Jim Finn, Pete Hale, Dianne Lavoie, Marty Stock, Dave Nunes, Chris Vaughan (and his daughter Stephanie from NYC), Justine Donovan, Ramona Connelly, Carol Coronis, Bill Lehrman & Carol Pierson, Gail Diederickson & her sister Janice, W.B., Bob Eaton (who stole about an hour from his volunteering duties at Strawbery Banke/NH Public Television event), and Tyler Buck. W.B. was in the vicinity. And Jeri texted Sue something about feeling one step above an artichoke. That meant she wasn't there. And evidently Don Hale still had the bug that kept him from Nick Noble's WICN "The Folk Revival" PMFF promo Thursday night. What we sang was -- 1. Roll the Old Chariot - Emery Hutchins 2. Shake Her, Johnny, Shake Her - Linn Schulz (first time in public) 3. Fire Marengo - Charlie Ipcar 4. Cornish Lads - Sue Young 5. Fall Down, Billy O'Shea - Emery Hutchins 6. Home, Dearie, Home - Linn Schulz 7. Old Ship Riggers - Charlie Ipcar 8. Race of Long Ago - Linn Schulz 9. West Indies Blues - Emery Hutchins & Charlie Ipcar 10. Neptune's Daughter - Sue Young 11. Bye, Bye, My Roseanna - Dianne Lavoie 12. White Squall - Pete Hale 13. Banks of Sicily - Emery Hutchins 14. The Shantyman - Charlie Ipcar 15. Knickerbocker Line - Linn Schulz 16. Sugar In the Hold - Sue Young 17. New York Girls - Peter Hale 18. Isle Au Haut - Dianne Lavoie 19. The Story of a River - Judy Barrows 20. Leave Her, Johnny, Leave Her - Gail Finn 21. Heave Ya Ho - Marty Stock 22. Plum Island National Anthem - Linn Schulz 23. Old Dun Cow (Press Room version in honor of the new sprinkler system) - Charlie Ipcar 24. Bad Luck To This Marching - Pete Hale 25. On Board of a Man-of-War - Dianne Lavoie 26. Pay Me My Money Down - Emery Hutchins 27. Essequibo River - Sue Young 28. Chicken On a Raft - Carol Coronis 29. Nine Times a Night - Linn Schulz 30. Three Score and Ten - Bob Eaton 31. Saltpetre Shanty - Justine Donovan 32. Roll the Old Chariot - Judy Barrows 33. Great West Road - Dave Nunes 34. Mobile Bay (Roll the Cotton Down) - Charlie Ipcar 46. Johnny Come Down To Hilo - Justine Donovan (discussion of blue dress indicative of loose woman -- that's what Tom said the symbolism was, but I haven't been able to find any information online) 47. Shake Her, Johnny, Shake Her - Linn Schulz (blue dress in first verse) 48. Safe Harbor Home - Chris Vaughan 49. All For Me Grog - Dianne Lavoie 50. Maggie May - Linn Schulz 51.
