Subject: RE: Anybody know what happened to Peter Bond From: GUEST,Mike Boursnell Date: 08 Nov 05 - 10:25 AM Hi, When I was a Cropredy this year I got a copy of Peter Bond's album "It's Alright For Some". Fantastic! I've been looking for it for years. It's good to hear he still sings occasionally. It would be great if he did some more concerts or put out a CD. If anyone has his ear, try and persuade him... Mike |
Subject: RE: Anybody know what happened to Peter Bond From: GUEST,Dave Roberts Date: 16 Sep 06 - 04:22 PM I first saw Peter Bond at a folk club in Middleton near Manchester probably round about 1980. This club was run (I believe) by a couple called Ken and Pepsi. My partner Di and myself were astounded when he did a floor spot. We didn't know who he was but he was so good that we knew he must be somebody well known. What a presence and what a song writer. As a result of this we bought all of his available albums and I consider the song Awkward Age to be one of the finest songs written. It's such a shame that no more songs have been released since that album. Roland's Oak is another great song. I saw Peter perform live at the White Swan in Ladybarn Manchester maybe in 1981 where he did a bit of juggling. The lights were dimmed and he juggled with lighted torches as I remember which is not bad for someone who apparently had no confidence. Also a hello to Mark Dowding who I remember well from Harry Boardman's Unicorn club on a Saturday night. His renditions of Little Pot Stove and Christmas 1914 were always impeccably performed. Let us not forget also Harry himself who was such an easy-going friendly chap and a vehicle for new talent. Let's hope Peter Bond does some more gigs as he is a great talent and deserves a wider audience. |
Subject: RE: Anybody know what happened to Peter Bond From: Mark Dowding Date: 17 Sep 06 - 02:43 AM Hello Dave - I have to admit the name is unfamiliar but if I saw you I'd no doubt be shaking your hand and asking how you'd been all these years! Ken and Pepsi used to get down to the Unicorn on a Saturday as well and gave me a booking at Middleton one night. I still do nine or ten of Peter's songs and they always go down well - like you say - so much talent to be able to write songs that people want to hear again and again. Not sure if he's getting many gigs at the moment - he had a spell a couple of years ago when he was going round a few clubs to do a few floor spots and the odd gig. By the way I'm still doing Little Pot Stove and Christmas 1914 - I have learnt some other songs in the past 22 years since I must have you. Check out my website Cheers Mark |
Subject: RE: Anybody know what happened to Peter Bond From: Dartford Warbler Date: 17 Sep 06 - 07:21 PM Peter was a firm favourite at Dartford Folk Club when it took place at The Railway. There are still several people in the regular audience who remember him. He wrote a wonderful song called "The Lark across the vapour trail". It is on the LP he made (mentioned in some previous postings) It's all right for some - Trailer 2108 Time to go and put it on the turntable after several years! |

Subject: RE: Anybody know what happened to Peter Bond From: GUEST,BeBop "Paul" Looba Date: 14 Dec 08 - 05:03 PM After all this time, I've only just come back to this thread. Interesting comments all, but none have got the song I heard all those years ago. The Theodore Major connection is fascinating! I know the Bernie Parry song, but it doesn't get into Lowry's spirit at all. I can only recall the last line of the verse (or chorus) which is "And the wanderer comes home". As my mother knew Lowry extremely well, I'm always intrested in insightful lyrics about him, rather than those which plainly draw on the tabloid image of him. Paul |

Subject: RE: Anybody know what happened to Peter Bond From: GUEST,Topic 56 Date: 22 Jan 11 - 09:58 AM What happened to Peter Bond A few years ago he dropped in with Bill Caddick at The Bacca Pipes Folk Club when Bill was doing a gig. I was gobsmacked as I had not seen him for years. He did not have a guitar with him as he had not intended to sing. He quickly had a guitar thrust into his hands and he did a couple of songs, it was like a wonderfull step back in time. Bill did a graet night but Peter Bond was a bonus. A couple of years ago he was the booked guest at the club that Peter Coe runs at The Alma Cottenstones near Halifax. He still had the guitar style, patter and comunication with his audience.while I was chatting to him at the end of the night he very kindly and totally unexpectadly gave me two CDs One being Awkward age that was a copy from the LP, the other a CD of live recordings of his over the years 19 tracks. I think one of his brothers had put them together for him. They are now treasured possesions. I think last year he stood in at a House Concerd round the West Houghton are when the original guest had to give backword at short notice. So there may be a chance that he may make some folk club appearences if orginisers were persistant enough |
Subject: RE: Anybody know what happened to Peter Bond From: GUEST,Brian M Date: 22 Jan 11 - 02:25 PM Great to hear Peter is alive and well ,saw him at various venues in North Yorkshire in the 70's/early 80's .The borough Bailiff in Knaresborough to name but one, also Blue Anchor,I,m just getting back into playing would love to learn some of his songs. Also, anyone remember Jon Strong |
Subject: RE: Anybody know what happened to Peter Bond From: GUEST,Topic 56 Date: 23 Jan 11 - 05:31 AM To Guest Brian M Yes I remember Jon Strong He was around the Bradford/Leeds area for quite a lot from the early 1970,s. He used to get round the local clubs doing floor spots and bookings. Generally sang contemporary material plus later his own stuff. Went out with a group of musicians under the name The Jon Strong Band. There are a lot of people from that era, who though on the young side have disappeared. One of the residents at The Topic Folk Club who used to get round the local clubs doing floor spots and bookings was Peter Timmins. He was allways highly regarded by the proffesional musicians for his guitar playing and the way he researched his songs. He is though now Doctor Timmins head of one of the large drug companies Research and Development Departments on the Wirrall. I am lucky enough to have 3 recorded live tapes from 3 of his paid gigs. I do realise this has nothing to do with Peter Bond but I got carried away answering Brian M's question. Though Peter Bond Held PT in high regard at the time. |
Subject: RE: Anybody know what happened to Peter Bond From: Ian Fyvie Date: 23 Jan 11 - 12:00 PM I remember Peter from Ducklington Folk Club when I was living in Oxford (1976-8); bought 'All Right For Some' and copied a couple of songs from the album into my guitar case song book. Lost the songbook - then it turned up last November and I tried playing one of Peter's songs over Christmas at one of our singarounds (Yes - reading the words - bad form....). It was a reminder for me how excellent Peter's song are. Ian Fyvie |

Subject: RE: Anybody know what happened to Peter Bond From: GUEST,Sean Date: 15 Sep 11 - 08:46 AM Peter taught me to play bass guitar in the 80s; he'd play guitar and I'd (try) to accompany him on bass. He was a great teacher, I appreciate everything he taught me (and his patience!) much more now as a soon-to-be 39 year old, than I ever did as a surly teenage punk. Peter never mentioned that he'd written, recorded or performed his own songs; what a humble man, I'd love to hear his songs. I reckon he'd be pleased to know I left the bass behind and took up the guitar a long time ago and have written and recorded several records with my (hardcore punk) band and even recorded and performed in the US and mainland Europe. I owe all that to Peter. If Peter ever does look on here, thanks so much for everything. Sean (from the Post Office). |
Subject: RE: Anybody know what happened to Peter Bond From: The Sandman Date: 15 Sep 11 - 10:42 AM I can remember Peter was guest at Bury St Edmunds Folk club, this was the early 1980s, he spent the whole of the next morning on a freezing december day, fixing the car of one of the other club organisers,as far as I am concerned, Peter Bond is a real good guy.Dick Miles |
