Subject: RE: Around the World in Folk- Powered Bus From: GUEST,Richard King Date: 19 Jun 17 - 06:46 AM I've written the story of our 1969-72 world trip in a double decker bus. The title is "Band on the Bus" and it's being published on 3rd July 2017. Here's a link to the Amazon page for it. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0750970200 If you want a copy of the film, called "Pillock Conquers the World" go to www.pillock.org Happy reading! Richard King PS The bus, now classed as an Historic Vehicle, is exempt from emissions legislation. |

Subject: RE: Around the World in Folk- Powered Bus From: GUEST,Jerry Crossley Date: 23 Nov 15 - 06:00 PM They called themselves the Philanderers amongst other names (eg. The Far Canal Band), and essentially bussed and busked themselves around the world. The narrator in the film is Richard King who now lives in the same village as me in Kent, and still performs with some other of his fellow travellers as Peter, Paul and Mary's Brother, and occasionally with my band The Cat's Pyjamas. |
Subject: RE: Around the World in Folk- Powered Bus From: GUEST,John from Kemsing Date: 23 Nov 15 - 12:14 PM I am fortunate to have seen the DVD of the cine record issued by the people involved. It was shown to a Social Activity Group in Edenbridge , Kent and I believe it was accompanied by the tale, an innocent challenge in a Liphook pub, told by one of the members. I was allowed to borrow it. It is a fascinating journey covering all the continents; the trials and tribulations of living in and driving a double decker bus through every terrain and weather and the accompanying folk music of the time that earned them their slice of fame as well as paying for day to day living. I recommend it, what an adventure. |
Subject: Around the World in Folk- Powered Bus From: Paul Burke Date: 20 Nov 15 - 10:07 AM BBC News has a report today (with video) about a group of friends from Liphook in Hampshire who took a double-decker bus around the world in 1969, earning their "fare" by doing folk performances. Anyone know any of them? |
