Subject: New Year Quiz (from 2015)
From: Nigel Parsons
Date: 31 Dec 15 - 08:31 PM

Okay, one of my standard quizzes.
I tend to set a quiz for New Year, where all the answers relate to those who have "passed on" during the previous year.
Some questions have musical links (mods, please allow a couple of days before transferring to BS)
As usual, Please do not post answers in the discussion. A full set of answers will be posted in a few days time in a separate thread. This allows others to attempt the quiz without 'spoilers'.

Yes, I accept that this is somewhat Anglo-centric. I can't help that I live on the Eastern side of "The Pond".

1 Who recorded "A Liverpool Lullaby" and hosted Surprise Surprise?
2 Which footballer played for Fulham, managed Coventry, and was Trade Union leader of the PFA (Professional Footballers Association)?
3 Which freelance journalist presented Antiques Roadshow from 1981-2000 (between the times of Arthur Negus and Michael Aspell)?
4 Which actress starred in "How Green was my Valley" and opposite John Wayne in "The Quiet Man"?
5 Which ex Chancellor & Foreign secretary took the title "Lord blank of Aberavon"?
6 What popular name was given to Mohammed Emwazi, a member of ISIL targeted & killed by an airstrike in November 2015?
7 Which British-American author wrote "The Stud" & "The Bitch"?
8 Who recorded "The Special years" and "Elusive butterfly" and was known for his selection of pullovers?
9 Which actor appeared in the Disney version of "Dr Syn, alias The Scarecrow" as well as the early "St Trinian's" films, and "Minder"?
10 Who likened an attack by Geoffrey Howe to "being savaged by a dead sheep"?
11 Which American Hall of Fame baseball player and manager (New York Yankees, New York Mets),& member of 13 World Series championship teams is it often claimed was the basis for a smart talking cartoon character from Yellowstone Park?
12 Who co-starred for 2 seasons as 'Paris' in Mission Impossible, and directed "3 men and a baby" and "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home"?
13 Who was leader of the Liberal Democratic Party from 1999-2006?
14 Which bandleader composed "Happy Heart", a hit for both Petula Clark & Andy Williams?
15 Which British peer founded the National Motor Museum?
16 Which member of The Drifters had a solo #1 hit with "Stand By Me"?
17 Which actor appeared as: Dracula, Scaramanga, Saruman & Count Dooku ( [in] Dracula, James Bond, Lord of the Rings, & Star Wars)
18 What was the name of the (protected) lion shot by Walter Palmer, an American recreational big-game hunter?
19 Which Egyptian actor appeared in: Lawrence of Arabia, Doctor Zhivago, & Funny Girl?
20 Who appeared as Shylock in BBC's 1980 version of The Merchant of Venice, and was a supporter of Tottenham Hotspur, despite being firmly linked to West Ham? (Up the 'Ammers!)

Happy New Year to all.
Nigel

As previously, if anyone is looking for a quiz for their local pub/club, please feel free to nick this. (if it's for charity, even better)
If you need the answers before I post them here, let me know.

Cheers
Nigel

Thank you Seamus.
I was confusing the actual park with the similar sounding cartoon one!

GUEST 02 Jan 16 - 12:42 AM - If you read the opening post, you will see that a request was made that the thread could stay above the line for a few days as some of the questions have musical links. I'm sure that the Mods can sort it out without your animated assistance.

Back to the quiz: I'm confident I have 16 of the 20.

No.17 is on the tip of my tongue - in fact, he was the answer to a question on TV just last week and I got it right. The other three I probably won't get but when I see the answers my reaction will most likely be "of course it is". I see that the answers are already up but I won't look at them yet. I'm waiting for that " AHA!" moment on No.17.

Fun quiz. Thanks Nigel.

OK, I'm moving this to the non-music section, since the thread has very little to do with music. It's quickly denigrating into the usual squabble of the usual suspects, so I expect that it will be closed soon. I'll leave that decision to the usual moderators, since I no longer see any need for this thread to be in the music section.

THANK YOU

Sincerely
...except that the above came from Gargoyle, copy-pasting what I said in the Conservative Folksingers thread. -Joe Offer-

One factual correction from Seamus and one dig at an unnamed Guest, who has since disappeared, from me before I returned to the subject in hand. Am I one of the 'usual suspects'?

Doesn't seem much of a squabble to me or have lots of contentious posts been deleted?

OK, I've just seen that the post at 08 Jan 16 - 10:02 PM above was from GUEST,Joe Offer. I wondered why it no action had been taken to move it downstairs.

Sorry Joe (the real one) for thinking it was you. I should have been paying more attention.
