Well advertised on local radio and in social media but the local rag HDM don't seem interested despite bombarding them with info.

Apart from the 8 acts named above, local songwriter, Barry Cundill is going to give us a song.

We ought to have you and Flick on next time, Geoff, if you're up for it. I'm sure everbody here is aware of your prestigious songwriting talents.

Victoria Square looks like a bombsite at the moment but you can still get into the Museum cutting across from Princes Quay.

We're shoving off with 'Roll, Alabama, Roll' as we'll be standing just a few metres away from the magnificent painting of the battle of the Alabama and Kearsage.

Another successful concert, packed out. Not bad for 3 hours without a break. Many thanks to all who took part, and here's to the next one, though we might have to move back to the Street Life Museum.

I assume that by free that would mean no entry fee.

I hope that it was possible, indeed encouraged, for people to make suitable donations (a silent collection?!) to put towards furthering all our aims.

A former employer of mine had a saying, part of which was that "A man who will work for nowt will always be busy".

The female examplar is not perhaps for here.

One of the reasons we get this magnificent venue for free is that we don't charge, and any collection buckets have to go towards the Museum funds and that's up to them.

"A man who will work for nowt will always be busy". Absolutely, and that's how we like it. We all get enough paying gigs but it's nice to promote our heritage for nowt occasionally.

Fair comment Steve - I hope the Museum do benefit in some way.

For example, is there any catering?

It's my organiser's hat you know and all the endless dealing with people who want something for nothing all the time.

Keep it up and we migt actually get to one if it happens when we are not on the other side of the world.

Incidentally, what's a "paying gig"?

The catering angle is a sore point. None of Hull's museums has a café. I keep meaning to raise this one. They are certainly missing a good income spinner. Ferens Art Gallery just across the square has a lovely café but wouldn't you know it, shut for a year being refurbished! Not sure in Maritime Museum where they could fit one without reducing display space which is already at a premium, but there's certainly loads of room at the StreetLife/Wilberforce House end.

Our little Yorkshire Waterways Museum, not known for its business sense, even has a café.

There was an excellent cafe in Streetlife but it closed because it could not turn a profit. There's quite a difference between catering as a business and catering run by volunteers. Perhaps we should remind people coming to future concerts to fetch some packing up!

It's a moot point regarding cafes in museums etc.

Judy and I tend to try them but unfortunately find they are usually overpriced for what they are offering - and that is not just in the UK.

A lesson I learned very early in my business life was that 30% of nothing is nothing whereas 10% of a pound is 10p or originally two shillings.

I sounds very basic but if you price yourself too high the 0% becomes the norm.

I always tried when running Whitby tonot take advantage of people with kids and to try and price things fairly, I think it worked but others would no doubt disagree.
