Subject: Billy Faier's Green Corn Lick From: GUEST,Busker Joe Date: 16 Feb 16 - 01:59 PM Billy Fair created a new lick FOR Green Corn which became known as the Green Corn Lick. i got to know him for 20 years and visited him at his home in Marathon, Tx. took a banjo lesson from him, but the technique did not set. as he explained it to me, the bum ditty of clawhammer is actually a 4-beat; one of the four is a pause. His Green Corn Lick fills that pause in with .... i forget what. someday i'll find my notes from that session. i also got to invite him down to terlingua where he and i did a gig together. never forget it. he's gone to the Big Jam now. the only YouTube example is not broken down, nor visible, nor terribly helpful. as a way to honor a mentor and friend and musical hero, i'd like to learn this lick. can anyone out there help me? |
