Subject: Those hot Canadians, other trivia From: bseed(charleskratz) Date: 06 Dec 99 - 02:25 PM Here's an item from Leah Garchik's delightful "Personals" column in today's San Francisco Chronicle (www.sfgate.com): Countdown Under Way A survey taken by the condom maker Durex, forwarded by Dyann Espinosa, has found that almost half the young people in the world want to usher in the millenium with sex. The most revved-up celebrants were Canadians; 63 percent said they hoped to be celebrating the occasion with personal fireworks. (another good reason for moving to folk heaven in Toronto) This is a teaser on the front page of the same edition of the Chronicle: Under a title: TODAY'S SCIENCE PAGE there's a picture of two cute hyena kits (they get pretty ugly when they grow up), and beneath that, the teaser: Hyenas in the Berkeley Hills are offering scientists new insights into sex hormones. See page A10. I didn't read the story: I didn't want to be disabused of my fantasy that "hyenas" is a campus term for date-rapers. --seed |
Subject: RE: Those hot Canadians, other trivia From: Peter T. Date: 06 Dec 99 - 02:55 PM The reasons for this are: (1) Canadians will do anything rather than get out of bed; (2) Canada is too cold for outdoor celebrating; (3) After Guy Lombardo took the Royal Canadians with him when he died, it really hasn't been the same..... yours, Peter T. |
Subject: RE: Those hot Canadians, other trivia From: Clinton Hammond Date: 06 Dec 99 - 03:13 PM It's widely known that Canadians invented "doggy-style"... This way both people can watch the last game of the play-offs... hehehehehehehe Did any other Canadains here catch Bowser and Blue's Christmas Special on the Comedy Network the other night? |
Subject: RE: Those hot Canadians, other trivia From: Liz the Squeak Date: 06 Dec 99 - 07:32 PM And I thought it was just the racoons..... LTS |
Subject: RE: Those hot Canadians, other trivia From: ddw Date: 06 Dec 99 - 11:48 PM Not surprising. The reason Canadians think about sex all the time is that every second they live they're being screwed by Revenue Canada (that's the bush-league IRS). cheers, david |
Subject: RE: Those hot Canadians, other trivia From: Liz the Squeak Date: 07 Dec 99 - 07:33 AM Mmmm, waiting for a job with IRS, wonder if I can get a posting to Canada...... LTS, dribbling and squirming with expectation....

Subject: RE: Those hot Canadians, other trivia From: Bob Landry Date: 07 Dec 99 - 12:37 PM BSeed - count me in with the 63% majority. Last week, I agreed to usher in the millenium with friends at a local house party and I had the foresight to reserve one of the bedrooms ... ;) Peter T: Whaddaya mean, too cold? As I came in to work this morning, I saw one of our local delivery couriers walking to his truck dressed in short sleeved- shirt and Bermuda shorts. The temp? ... a balmy -2C. Maybe Delivery Guy's brain was balmy, too. Clinton: Doggy-style? ... depends on who's playing. You mean to tell me I missed Bowser and Blue. "Doh!" ddw: In a previous incarnation as a Revenue Canada employee, the screwing we gave to Canadians was not at all pleasant. I saw the light and left them in 1985. LTS: The only IRS postings in Canada I can think of are liaison type positions that the IRS might have in Ottawa. If you're interested in "Hot" Canadians, Ottawa (where they roll up the sidewalks at 5:pm) might not be the best place to go (I lived there for 5 years in the '60's and '70's.) Guess it all depends on how proficient you are at developing liaisons. Bob |
Subject: RE: Those hot Canadians, other trivia From: Willie-O Date: 07 Dec 99 - 08:49 PM Hey don't trash my hometown (soon to be a minor megacity) Bob--the sidewalks and half the lights are now on till at least 9 on weekends. But I don't think I could handle the excitement of an Ottawa Saturday night any more. As for certain other whiners out there, I would love to be making enough money to complain about Revenue Canada. I have to choose between paying bills and buying Christmas presents for my kids and it ain't because my income taxes are too high, sob, sniff. But I don't have to borrow money to get them health care. But I think most of the alleged 63% who "hope" to make whoopee on the cusp of the millennium are, um, teenage boys. And/or the phrase "personal fireworks" has been misinterpreted--in Canadianese, it means "fireworks you buy at the store and shoot off for a bunch of your friends who pretend to be impressed", not any clever sexual allegory. Subject: RE: Those hot Canadians, other trivia From: catspaw49 Date: 07 Dec 99 - 09:54 PM Isn't Ottawa the sister city of Toledo, Ohio? Spaw |
Subject: RE: Those hot Canadians, other trivia From: sophocleese Date: 07 Dec 99 - 11:11 PM Ottawa is a very nice town and after 5:00 you can cross the bridge to Hull.... However I do remember being stopped by a cop when I threw a used sparkler out of the car window. (I was a teenager then, okay? I'm smarter now, I'd look before throwing.) |
Subject: RE: Those hot Canadians, other trivia From: Willie-O Date: 08 Dec 99 - 09:58 AM ...and the famed clubs of Hull are destroyed by bombs and arson much less frequently now, its down to one a year or so. By the way Ottawa and Hull bars close at the same time now, (2:00 a.m.) so there's no point. I think Ottawa's sister city is in Japan. Did Ohio get relocated, or just Toledo? Bill |
