I'd like an "Edit Button"..
even if it's only available for say 5 mins after posting.
Just to catch those daft errors of typing, and copy and pasting....

Obviously not the kind of "Edit Button" that is always available
and allows the bad guys to rewrite contentious posts days after the event...

It's the hash key - # (or the tic-tac-toe symbol when I'm feeling American, and the noughts-&-crosses symbol when I'm feeling European).

Agree about the edit capability, even on a limited timespan, tho I'd like 12 to 24 hours to let my priceless pearls of wisdom get cold, the better to re-read properly.

I know what this is REALLY about...it's a transparent ploy by Max to get me to come back from Facebook (where I mostly am hanging out in the last few years) and post all the time again on Mudcat on behalf of my stable of fictional characters. It's not gonna work, Max. :D Yes, admittedly, it has gotten me back for a few posts today....but how long can that effect last? I hear Facebook calling! Oh, sure, I'll still drop in now and then to talk to my buddies on the MOABS thread (whom I also talk to on Facebook anyway), but that's just because I don't want them to feel totally bereft and abandoned, as they might, were I not to show up here now and then.

As for Shane, well, I think I'll help the boy get his own Facebook page going. He needs an outlet in life, and that could be a good one. He has yet to realize his ambition of becoming a world famous rock star and meeting people like Courtney Love, Ozzie Osbourne, and Kim Kardashian, and I think Facebook could serve as a springboard to that, while Mudcat is merely a long, slow slide downhill into the dusty retirement cubicles of the NYCFTTS...(the Neil Young Center For The Terminally Screwed)...as Spaw put it, back in those golden days long past.

In the US, "#" is most commonly used to mean "number". Its use meaning "avoirdupois pound" is much less common. Yet it's called the "pound sign" (not the "number sign") by all US automated answering systems. That's why it takes old farts like me a second or so to realize what some computer is talking about when it tells me to, "Press the pound sign." I have to mentally translate it to "number sign".

And don't even get me started on "*". It's an asterisk, not a "star".

gnu - No, they don't mention Shane, do they? Gosh, I wonder why? Heh! Heh! It might be because of the 30 or so stolen snowmobiles he has put in the bottom of the lake. It might be due to his public drunkenness and his many mindless acts of property destruction. It might be because he has embarrassed the community in countless ways, and failed to make any positive contribution. It might be his personal hygiene problem. It might be many things like that.

But what a great website, eh? Doesn't it make you long to go to Blind River ASAP? And if you do...you might be lucky enough to meet Shane outside the Tim Horton's or the Iron Horse, and he'll try to bum a smoke off you.

Don't for a second interpret this as a lone indictment of guest posting. Those members complaining turn my stomach as much, if not more, than the guests.

The sense of entitlement to a free Web site, the vitriol, blatant disrespect and levels of contempt in the criticism and complaint --without actually ever just leaving mind you, is classless.

Any time I am forced to go below the line and peak momentarily into this BS section, I am appalled at humanity at large. These conversations make you look like terrible people.

Little Hawk, I already too strained and tainted by all this feckery to bother to interpret your tone, but in short: Yes. Please go to Facebook. Facebook accepts and then owns all the content you post on it. And what seems as unstoppable as our household refuse, you can dump all this bullshit on Facebook.

Mudcat is a free traditional music archive and we keep all the data free and public, at my expense. Unlike Facebook, we stake no claim of ownership and make sure it shows up in Google searches so that it can be found again and again for free.

All I care about is the traditional music information and the flesh and blood friends that I have and continue to meet because of this site. I don't care what you all think your rights are or what you think is fair on my Web site. I don't care which side of what argument you are on. I don't care who called who what.

The moderators and I are not paid a wage for what we do here. In fact we spend our own money to host and deliver the songs, the lyrics, the stories, the jokes and all of your bullshit. And you all take that for granted and treat us like shit and use endless amounts of time on complete bullshit. We're tired of it.

In summary, get your shit together, read and contribute to a music thread once in a while, remind yourself this is a free web site that you can stop going to any time you want, treat your moderators better, or get the fuck out.
