Mrsleveller no longer plays mandolin so she wants to sell her two superb instruments.

The first is hand-built by Thomas Buchanan in a teardrop shape, with quilted maple back and sides, spruce front, rosewood fingerboard and beautiful binding and soundhole inlay. It is about 6 years old but has had very little play, especially over the last couple of years. As with all Buchanan instruments, it has a fixed bridge which gives it the most amazing, clear, bell-like tone and incredible volume. This really does sound as beautiful as it looks. It is almost pristine with just the tiniest mark on the edge of the soundboard, about 2mm long, and an even smaller mark on the banding which can't actually be seen but you can just feel with your finger. It has Schaller machines with pearl buttons and comes with a thick Ashbury hard case which has some dust marks on it but no rips or tears. This is the instrument that Phil Cunningham plays and you can hear him and learn more about the instrument on the maker's website:

I'm looking for £595 for this, which is a big reduction on the new price of £749 without case.

The second is hand-built by Paul Hathway, Model-1. These are well-known and deservedly popular instruments. It has a mahogany neck, back and sides, stained to resemble rosewood, a cedar front and Gotoh machines. The sound is slightly darker than the Buchanan; very rich with good volume, which makes it a popular 'Celtic' instrument and in bands, favoured by quite a few well-known musicians. This is about 7 years old and, once again, is in pristine condition with just the very tiniest mark on the top of the headstock (had to put my glasses on for that one). It comes with a padded gig bag that has a few stains but no rips or tears.

More about the instrument and links to You Tube sound samples here (please note that the tailpiece is different to the one shown, being the more traditional style with a cover):

I want £450 for this – the new price is £600

Please add £20 each for courier delivery in the UK, or you can collect from near Howden in East Yorkshire. If you're interested, PM me with your email address and I'll send you some photos. No haggling, please, these are going on Ebay in a week at the same fixed prices and if I can't get the price I want I won't sell.

Have either already got bugs in?

No bugs, I'm afraid, Richard. The Buchanan has now been sold.
