Subject: RE: Obit: Larry Kearns(Oldham Tinkers) 2016 From: GUEST,In good company Date: 21 Jun 16 - 10:14 AM Blimey, second Lancashire legend in a week. First Bob Williamson and now Larry Kearns. I think my favourite 'tinkers line, probably delivered by Larry, was "We called our dog Grieg. All he could do was pee agint' suite..." RIP and condolonces to his family and friends. Dave |
Subject: RE: Obit: Larry Kearns(Oldham Tinkers) 2016 From: Waddon Pete Date: 21 Jun 16 - 03:44 PM The article highlighted by FreddyHeadey at the top of this thread is well worth the read. It gives a great insight into the life and contribution of Bernard "Larry" Kearns. I have added his name to the "In Memoriam" thread. My thoughts are with those who know and love him. RIP Peter |
Subject: RE: Obit: Larry Kearns(Oldham Tinkers) 2016 From: GUEST,Ray Date: 21 Jun 16 - 04:23 PM Sad news indeed. Commiserations especially to his brother Gerry. Our paths have not crossed for many years but I still have happy memories including the night at the Imperial hotel in Blackpool when only two Tinkers turned up on stage for their second spot. The doorman had stopped Larry and said that they didn't allow trainers in the ballroom so he said OK and went back to the bar! |
Subject: RE: Obit: Larry Kearns(Oldham Tinkers) 2016 From: Paul Reade Date: 22 Jun 16 - 05:12 PM Very sad news. I was always a fan of the Tinkers and in fact I remember when they first started singing together at the Highfield and Park Inn on Waterloo street. Larry and Gerry's dad Benny Kearns was also one of the regulars with a great repertoire of Irish songs. I also remember the free sessions they ran in various pubs around Oldham when I lived there, like the Waterloo, Sir Colin Campbell and the Oldham Hotel, and others I can't remember the names of. Fond memories indeed! RIP Larry |

Not only around Oldham and Middleton, but throughout the world ! Happy memories from many years ago! He once did the 110 metres hurdles in the slowest time ever recorded! Circa 1964 at Chester college - all he could do was laugh !! A star !!! |
