Subject: RE: chamber maid stiffed for money From: Jim Carroll Date: 04 Jul 16 - 03:49 AM BRISK YOUNG BUTCHER. It's of a brisk young butcher as I've heard many say He started out for London town all on a certain day He said a frolic I will have my fortune for to try I'll go down into Leicestershire some cattle for to buy When he arrived at Leicestershire he stopped at an inn He called for liquors of the best his He called for liquors of the best and being a roving blade He presently did fix his eye upon the chambermaid When the day was over the night being coming on The butcher came back to the inn his business being done He called for his supper, his recogning left unpaid He said "tonight I'll play a trick all on the chambermaid*' When she took the candle to light him up to bed When she came into the room these words to her he said "One sovereign I will give to you for to enjoy your charms So that night the fair maid slept all in the butchers arms He got up in the morning and prepared to go away The landlady said "kind sir your reckoning you did not pay" "Oh no" the butcher didi reply "Oh do not think it strange One sovereign I gave to your maid, but did not get the change " Just in twelve months after he came that way again And just as he had done before he stopped at the inn And soon the buxom chambermaid she chanced for him to spy And brought a babe just three months old and placed it on his knee The butcher sat like one amazed and at the child did stare When the joke it was found out how he did stamp and swear "Kind sir" the chambermaid did say "Oh do not think it strange One sovereign you did give to me and I have brought the change" The company laughed the maid did joke and round in bliss around And soon the tidings of the same spread all through Leicester town The butcher was to justice brought who happened to live near One hundred pounds he did pay down before he did get clear. So all you brisk young butchers a warning take by me Look well into your bargain before your money pay Or else may be your folly will give yoji cause to range For if you sport with a dandy lass be sure you'll get your change Jim Carroll |
