I'll be in Dingle on September 7 (Wed) and 8 (Thurs) and would appreciate current info on trad sessions for those nights.

The following night (Friday Sept 9) I want to go to Clare. Please let me know which town (and pub) has a good Friday night session. Thanks!

Recommending 'sessions' is always, I feel, strongly dependent on the expectations of the person you're recommending a particular location to.

I have been told off very harshly after making recommendations for very fine sessions because 'the musicians were paid'. Well, wake up 99% of regular sessions have a few people who are hired to turn up and make sure things move along.

On the other hand, there are some lovely quiet places where music is played that would not appreciate much being invaded by all comers after advertised on the interwebs.

We have Jackie Daly on Friday nights, FWIW.

Jackie Daly is listed as being here on a Friday.
Is it OK to post a link Peter?

Hi, Michael. We went to Ireland several years ago and at that time, there was hardly any info on the net about sessions. We found the best sources were hotels, who want to accommodate guests, and the local tourist office, the "i". Ask for traditional music.

We attended a session in Ennis, and the bar was packed to the gills. (Almost nobody was listening.) Perhaps that's why sessions aren't on the Internet; they'd be overwhelmed.

Hotels suffer the same thing about expectation, you're just that more likely to end up at a Comhaltas seisiún or something like that.

perhaps John Ryan of Dingle Music School would advise you. http://www.dinglemusicschool.com/

There used to be a regular open Sunday session at the Marina Inn in Dingle. Might be worth checking out.

Thanks all. Can't pass up Jackie Daly, so we'll probably go to Miltown Malbay on the Friday.

Do make sure he'll actually be there. He does go away for tours and concerts. He's in the US right now. But there will be music anyway.

Dingle

Here is a map of
Dingle pubs,2016 - open in the browser
use the search box and type in 'music'. It should list anywhere mentioning music(on this map).

There is a shout on TripAdvisor...
"Try to get hold of a West Kerry Live, a free fortnightly colour magazine, easier said than done as they go like hot cakes. (2016... Next one is 18th August, then 1st Sept, 15th Sept, 29th Sept.) Everything is listed there. " https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g211861-i1306-k9224014-Dingle_Sunday_Monday_Tuesday-Dingle_Dingle_Peninsula_County_Kerry

Just a thought to the OP - are you looking for sessions to join in, or to listen to ?
I was in Ennis on the Friday night before the Willie Clancy week. There are 2 leaflets you can get from the local tourist office. One is called "The Ennis Trad Trail" which lists 2 sessions every night of the week apart from Monday and Tuesday which lists one on each evening. Another leaflet - "The Ennis Whiskey Trail" - lists 5 bars as having traditional music but doesn't say which nights.
I found 4 sessions on the Friday night, but didn't join in - content just to listen. The playing standard is quite high.
