I was playing with a band for a while but now I'm on my own again, so I'm looking for gigs. Clubs, Festivals, etc.

I'm a singer/songwriter, writing songs in traditional style, but I also include a significant amount of traditional songs too. Well... I AM related to all the great Scottish traveller, traditional singers, so you'd expect a few traditional ones, right?

I accompany myself on guitar and shruti-box, but mostly sing the traditional ones unaccompanied. I'm based in Aberdeen, north east Scotland, so would probably need a few gigs in the area, say within 50 miles of each other. If you or your club/festival are interested. I could try to arrange something in your area for late 2016 and 2017.

I'm in Whitby, for the festival in August, so if you're going you could see me there to check me out, or you could have a look at some of my stuff on youtube.com/bobknightfolk

It's kinda rough, just a wee cheap video camera, and I'm a lot thinner now, lost three and a half stone. (oh! such vanity) But you'll get the idea. My e-mail is bobknight@knightfolk.com

Beautiful singing, good songs, sung with clear diction. Best of luck to you in your search for gigs. Audiences would be fortunate to hear you.

Maeve

Thank you Maeve, that's very kind of you to say that. If I'm ever near where you are, and you're in the audience, please come and say hello. :)

I'd love to be over there to enjoy a full programme of your songs. Thank you- I would of course say hello!

(You're related to my friends Lizzie and Sheila then?)

Bob Knight is also listed as being involved with a mentoring programme 'Paths to Songs'- What I'd give to learn from that whole group! https://projects.handsupfortrad.scot/scotlandsings/paths-to-songs/

I have a website at www.knightfolk.com
I also have a youtube site at www.youtube.com/bobknightfolk and a facebook page which Maeve gave a link to in the post above.

My mother's name was Margaret Stewart, Jeannie Robertson was her cousin, as was Lizzie Higgins, and Stanley Robertson. Another cousin was Alec Stewart, married to Belle, the Stewarts of Blair. (Sheila)Another cousin was Lucy Stewart, and of course Elizabeth, who I see quite regularly.

That mentoring programme never got off the ground as far as I know Maeve. I contacted Simon Thoumire who was trying to launch it, but that was the last I heard.

My e-mail is bobknight@knightfolk.com if anyone wants to contact me directly.

Bob's website clicky www.knightfolk.com

Sorry to hear the mentoring project is slow to start. It can take years to really bring energy such a project, and I hope folks don't give up!

Maeve, I put my name forward for it a few years back and have heard nothing since - I don't think it ever really got off the ground. I know at least one person who benefitted from it, but other than that, a resounding silence.

Yes, it is often the case with a great idea. Too bad.

Aye, it was a good idea, and they had some good people in place, but I don't think the younger, or newer performers came through in any great numbers. For my part, I'd still be willing to impart any knowledge or experience I may have. :)
