Subject: Obit: Ruth Cooper - Robin Hood Folk Club From: Dave Sutherland Date: 08 Aug 16 - 11:13 AM Just received the sad news via Bill Wilkes of Grand Union Folk that Ruth Cooper (now Ruth Steggles) passed away in the early hours of this morning. We knew that she was very ill but this has come as quite a shock to all of us on the Nottingham scene. Ruth was a tireless worker for folk music organising the Robin Hood Folk Club in various parts of Nottingham for over forty years and prior to that she was involved with The Rising Sun in Catford. She was also a leading light in the promotion of Shape Note hymn singing in the East Midlands and much further afield. Our sympathies and condolences to her daughter Hannah and her husband David. RIP. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Ruth Cooper - Robin Hood Folk Club From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 08 Aug 16 - 07:20 PM Just heartbroken to read this. She was a lovely, lovely soul - and their folk club at Catford was a high point of my London life in those days, where I met many people who have stayed friends over the years. R.I.P. beautiful girl, and sing up a storm in the heavenly choir. (And send my love to Johnny over in the bass section.) |
Subject: RE: Obit: Ruth Cooper - Robin Hood Folk Club From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 08 Aug 16 - 07:24 PM I wonder if one of the mods should amend the thread title to "Obit: Ruth Cooper (Ruth Steggles) - Robin Hood Folk Club ?? She has been Steggles for years, and some folks may not recognise who this is about otherwise. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Ruth Cooper - Robin Hood Folk Club From: vectis Date: 09 Aug 16 - 06:54 PM I was a regular at The Rising Sun for a couple of years. Good club and lovely organisers. I met Ruth at Broadstairs many years later and caught up with each others news. We met irregularly after that and always enjoyed a natter and a laugh. So sorry to hear of her death. Another good ún gone too soon. |
