From: Ian Stephenson
Date: 09 Dec 99 - 02:14 PM

I thought I'd give those who couldn't get the realaudio a chance to here some sound clips of our band 422.
The BBC young folk Awards final sounded great on the radio. Here is a link to the 422 website, where you can download a cool mp3 of a track recorded by us at the famous "WINDYB" festival in my back garden.
Cheers,
Ian

Plus please let me know what you think of the site, what it needs etc. Suggestions will be greatly appreciated, and you can even leave a message in our guest book! I keep reading the guestbook messages, and scrolling to the bottom to reply, and then realising I'm not on mudcat anymore!
    Cheers again,
    Ian Stephenson

I knew the playing was going to be exceptional, but the arrangement kicks bum - the way it slows down and gets quiet, and then just explodes into Big John McNeil.

You might want to slow the banner down or make the text bold so we old folks can read it without glasses. My only other suggestion is to put up some pictures of 422 playing.

    Looking forward to the CD!

Better than Transatlantic Sessions, and that, as you know, is high praise, brother.

I played a session with Sam once, a couple of years ago, and he really blew my socks off. Some fella! I was playing all the right notes, but as Eric Morecambe immortalised it, "Not neccessarily in the right order!"

My neice made the finals last year, but fell at the first this time, due, apparently to a duff tape. Hopefully she'll be biting your ankles next year!

    Well done yourselves. Congratulations.

Skipjack---> What is your neice's name. We might know her. Sam was in the semi-finals last year with another duo.

Ian, my neice is Chloe Dunn, of Cottenham. She's the fiddle end of a four piece, but dang, I can't remember the band's name. The dear little maid is only 14.

I bumped into Sam at one of Carol Dawson's Hootenannays at Wootton, and while we're on the subject of next years festivals, how about scratching together a bridge toll and coming over to the Sloop in Barton on Humber of a Tuesday, where anarchy, good cheer and free sandwiches accompany Eric Twigger from Cottingham FC, surely one of the nicest blokes a chap could meet.

When I went to listen, i told me I needed to upgrade to Real PLayer Basic 7. So I did. Then when I clicked on the full version of Big John McNeil, I heard about the first 5 seconds, then lost all volume. It was still connected and playing, I just couldn't hear anthing. I am going to go try it with another file and see what happens. The little bit I did hear sounded great!

    Congratulations,

    You, Keith, well, sort of.

I just sit and marvel at them fiddle types, and hack away on the basses of a 120 Bass.

I only make it one session in three, as I'm over in Leeds mostly, where I've recently hooked up with the excellent Three Up Front.

Kat, and maybe others - I use Windows Media Player for .mp3. I find that I don't get any break-up if I hit the "pause" button until the whole file's loaded. No problems here!
