Hi, looking for an ABC for this tune from the Hebrides as recorded by Alan Stivell on his Renaissance of The Celtic Harp album. I didn't find it on the Session. The tune is part of the Gaeltacht Medley, it starts at 5:30 in. I have the Pierre Bensusan DADGAD guitar tab. Thanks

This song was recorded by the Irish trio "Cran" on their CD "Music From The Edge Of The World". They spell it like this :

"Hé Mantú"

Try searching that and you might have more luck.
I'm not at all sure that Stivell had the "correct" Scots Gaelic title for the song. I'm sure it must have been recorded many times by Scottish Gaelic singers such as Flora MacNeill.
Best of luck with your search.

If you "Google" : "He Mandu" - there's a "Youtube" clip, and also other various links. I'm not going through them all, but you might get an "ABC" from one of them somewhere.

Try searching on www.kistoriches.com for 'He Mandu'. I believe it's a waulking song.

Sorry, I just saw that you were looking for ABC notation. You won't find that on www.kistoriches.com but you can hear a recording of the song sung by Rev William Matheson.

It's in Marjorie Kennedy Fraser's "Songs of the Hebrides". The cats are on my lap right now so I can't go and get the page reference; I'll come back and post it later.

Thanks for the responses but this is the tune I'm looking for
Heman Dubh. This version by Patrick Ball is similar to Stivell's in it's melody and I don't hear it in He Mantu (or Mandu).

I do thank you though, kenny for bringing Cran to my attention, good stuff and you AR for that excellent website.

I've the scanned music from the sheet music book of Alan Stivell's music but it's a very big file. It's also in an awful key. A Flat Major, with four flats, or maybe it's in the minor key. However, have a look at these pages which are in the key of G Major or maybe E minor.

Garcia's notation is somewhat similar to Bensusan's but in a more manageable key. Many thanks, Helen.
