Subject: Will Joni Mitchell sing again? From: GUEST,Janet Date: 13 Oct 16 - 09:13 PM It's been awhile since Joni's health issues and hospitalization. I read about her recuperation at home and being on the mend. I hope her health has improved greatly now and just wondering if she will be able to sing again? Of course her health is of upmost importance before anything else but hopefully she will at some point be well enough to record again (perhaps even at home if she has the equipment in her home to do this.) Touring may not be a possibility anymore. Just hope she is feeling better. Or even release some early (previously unreleased) material from mid-60's when she was still singing at coffeehouses in Canada. Have heard some of those early gems on YouTube (songs that were not released on an album.) |

Subject: RE: Will Joni Mitchell sing again? From: GUEST,keberoxu Date: 14 Oct 16 - 02:35 PM One story in the news this month (October) referenced the Facebook page, not for Joni Mitchell, but for Judy Collins who is Mitchell's conservator. While Collins herself has not had Mitchell's health crisis, Collins remarks that she is acquainted with someone else who went through the same thing. Collins stresses that much time is required. The reports in the news state that directly after the aneurysm, Mitchell had to learn how to speak again; updates say she can speak now. |
Subject: RE: Will Joni Mitchell sing again? From: Jeri Date: 14 Oct 16 - 02:53 PM Judy Collins is NOT Joni's conservator, who is actually Leslie Morris, Joni's friend. As Felipa noted, Mitchell hasn't sung in years, and it had nothing to do with her aneurysm. |
Subject: RE: Will Joni Mitchell sing again? From: gnu Date: 14 Oct 16 - 06:35 PM I was aghast when I saw the title of this thread. Glad I didn't learn anything new and "aghasting". >;-) |
Subject: RE: Will Joni Mitchell sing again? From: GUEST,Tina Date: 14 Oct 16 - 08:47 PM To gnu, "Aghast" when you saw the title of this thread??? I don't see anything wrong with it at all. I'm sure a lot of people wonder the same thing. How very, very strange to say you were aghast over the title of this thread. It doesn't make sense at all to say something like that! I actually too was curious if Joni will be able to sing again as I have been a long time fan and people can heal and return to their art. What a harsh word to use, "Aghast" about this thread. |
Subject: RE: Will Joni Mitchell sing again? From: Jeri Date: 14 Oct 16 - 08:59 PM Actually, I just read an interview with her from April, 2015, in which she talked about maybe doing more music, another album. So it's not outside the realm of possibility. I have no clue how likely that is now. |
Subject: RE: Will Joni Mitchell sing again? From: GUEST,Keberoxu Date: 14 Oct 16 - 10:05 PM But, Tina, I believe you have been here a lot longer than I have. Long enough to know that people "speak as they find" around here. I regret that the news article I quoted was erroneous, in my earlier post, as my quote was accurate. I wonder, rather, if what the journalist ought to have said, was that Judy Collins' Facebook page reported that Collins had been in touch with Mitchell's conservator. I apologize for contributing to the misleading news myself. |
Subject: RE: Will Joni Mitchell sing again? From: John MacKenzie Date: 15 Oct 16 - 03:17 PM Last time I heard her sing, it was a pale shadow of her former self. Get well Joni, I'll always love you, but I think it's time to retire. |
Subject: RE: Will Joni Mitchell sing again? From: Jack Campin Date: 15 Oct 16 - 04:49 PM I thought conservators were the people who glue the chips back on crumbling statues and apply corrosion treatments to antique brass. Seems a bit drastic to use the term for someone looking after a living pop icon. |
Subject: RE: Will Joni Mitchell sing again? From: GUEST,keberoxu Date: 15 Oct 16 - 04:55 PM The conservator question, as I remember reading in the recent past, had this angle: Ms. Mitchell has a considerable estate to be managed, and yet she is not connected with blood relatives who could respond and support her in a time of need or emergency. Yes, we know there was a reunion with the adult child that she gave up for adoption. But in terms of an ongoing relationship with a blood relative, or with a spouse -- much less a parent-child, donor-heir relationship -- that simply wasn't there. An alternative had to be put in place. |
Subject: RE: Will Joni Mitchell sing again? From: GUEST,henryp Date: 15 Oct 16 - 05:17 PM According to Legalzoom; Timing is everything in understanding the differences between a power of attorney and a conservatorship. While both provide an individual with the authority to make decisions regarding the financial matters of another person, a POA is executed in advance of incapacity, while a conservatorship happens upon petition to the court after an individual is no longer able to competently make important financial decisions. |
Subject: RE: Will Joni Mitchell sing again? From: GUEST,HiLo Date: 15 Oct 16 - 06:45 PM One of my favourite albums by her is the 2000 album "Both Sides Now". she does a lot of "old standards" and just nails them. Her voice had aged and matured but her talent had not diminished in the least. I recommend this album very highly, just shows you what a huge talent she is! |
