Subject: RE: Sheehans/Acoustic Avalon, Leicester ??? From: Big Al Whittle Date: 06 Jan 17 - 01:27 PM weird scene. i bought a couple of guitars there. and they pissed me off by misquoting a price and getting me to trail down there one time. the food was awful. but it was disabled friendly and there was no problem parking. i saw some great and not so great guitarists there, the PA was always first class. Ralph McTell memorably after his gig put his hands on Donard (his roady;s) shoulders and had him lead him through the throng of his adoring fans (he thought) like prize fighter - muttering, get me out of here! i don't live in that area any more but i would say avalon was a loss. linking the referendum to guitar sales seems a wee bit fanciful to me. nothing i want to buy has gone up in price. still i'll take advice on that. does that mean we should ask for more for second hand instruments. |

Subject: RE: Sheehans Music Shop From: GUEST,Ray Date: 06 Jan 17 - 08:12 AM I was slagged off when I questioned what had happened to Acoustic Aavalon and this thread isn't a surprise. |
Subject: Sheehans Music Shop From: OldNicKilby Date: 06 Jan 17 - 07:16 AM R I P Sheehans has closed. What a tragedy. Another casualty of the enlightened Parking Fiasco that Leicester is Hell bent on perpetrating |
Subject: RE: Acoustic Avalon 2016, Lecester ??? From: GUEST,RayT Date: 03 Nov 16 - 05:37 AM Were you intending to go this year? I've never bought a guitar there but have met and heard many interesting people who I'll probably never come across again - its more than a vehicle to flog guitars. |

Subject: RE: Acoustic Avalon 2016, Lecester ??? From: GUEST,RayT Date: 02 Nov 16 - 03:10 PM I'm not bothered whether they run the show or not but I am annoyed that they didn't seem willing or able to clarify where or whether the event will take place. I don't think I'm being rude at all; at least not so rude as someone who can't be bothered to answer emails asking simple questions whilst still making people believe they're running the show. I assume that neither of the last two posters have ever been to the show so they've little or no idea of the format its taken over the last deacade or so. If Sheehans can make money running a concert, they can surely make money charging people admission to a show wher most of the displays will be provided by the manufacturers. |
Subject: RE: Acoustic Avalon 2016, Lecester ??? From: Backwoodsman Date: 02 Nov 16 - 09:31 AM It's a friggin' guitar show, for the purpose of flogging guitars and accessories to guitar-freaks. It's not The End Of Life As We Know It. You'll live - get over it. |
Subject: RE: Acoustic Avalon 2016, Lecester ??? From: OldNicKilby Date: 02 Nov 16 - 08:48 AM RayT, there is absolutely no need to be so rude. Shows cost a fortune to set up and arrange. The basic U K economy has changed radically in the last few months due to the morons voting to leave the E U .Disposable income has fallen, yes the Government says it is booming but this is mainly due to the Tourism sector. The pound if you had failed to notice has collapsed so imports cost around 20 to 30 per cent more Sheehans are a fantastic operation and almost a National Treasure |
Subject: RE: Acoustic Avalon 2016, Lecester ??? From: GUEST,RayT Date: 02 Nov 16 - 04:55 AM I'm not a facebook user, but ......... |
Subject: RE: Acoustic Avalon 2016, Lecester ??? From: GUEST,RayT Date: 02 Nov 16 - 04:49 AM So Acoustic Avalon will not, as I thought, be brought back "bigger and better in 2016" as originally advertised but will simply be commuted into an evening concert with unspecified activities going on in the shop during the day. I fully appreciate the financial problems associated with such an event but surely its largely a matter of balancing the outgoings with the income generated by the ticket charges. A considerable number of people have attended this event over the years and I'm sure I won't be alone in thinking that it's not worth attending. It might have helped if someone had bothered to answer my original email |
Subject: RE: Acoustic Avalon 2016, Lecester ??? From: GUEST,Sheehans Music Date: 01 Nov 16 - 09:45 AM Many thanks for the heads up on this thread! Yes, we are holding a concert on the evening of the 12 November - please follow the above link for details. Sheehans will be open as usual during the day on the Saturday and D'Addario are holding a re-string event during the day with slots still available. |
Subject: RE: Acoustic Avalon 2016, Lecester ??? From: Acorn4 Date: 01 Nov 16 - 09:00 AM The problem seems to be a lack of clarity - the "Avalon" event seems to be taking place at their shop this year on Sat 12th November - this is the link:- http://www.sheehans.com/acoustic-avalon the concert seems to be taking place in the evening with, I presume, the usual sale during the daytime. |
Subject: RE: Acoustic Avalon 2016, Lecester ??? From: GUEST Date: 01 Nov 16 - 03:34 AM I'm sure they care very much about what they set out to do. i.e. Sell guitars using whatever is the most appropriate tool. The cost of running such events in the light of falling sales of luxury goods at the middle income level (where most acoustics are sold) means extravagant events will become less often as manufacturers bankrolling them tighten their belts. I'm all for finding it sad but a rant about it and having a pop out of any context? I thought this was Mudcat not The Daily Heil. |
Subject: Acoustic Avalon 2016, Leicester ??? From: GUEST,RayT Date: 31 Oct 16 - 11:22 AM For a number of years, we have trecked down to Leicester Racecourse for the annual guitar show then, in 2015, they decided to have a year off promising to be back this year. Information on the net about the show, which takes place in November, has been limited and all I can now find is part of the Sheehans site selling tickets for the Saturday evening concert. There is now nothing whatsoever about the show. Reading between the lines, it seems to me that they've abandoned the racecourse venue and are simply holding the concert they've already committed to at their shop in Leicester town centre. I have no wish to pay for a day's parking as well as admission to the show so have made other arrangements for that weekend. An email several weeks ago failed to elicit any response from the organisers. What the hell is going on Sheehans? Clearly you don't care about customers who have supported you over the years. If you're no longer going to run the show, the least you could do is tell people. |
