Subject: Lyr Req: Samba Lando From: keberoxu Date: 18 Dec 16 - 09:59 PM Samba Lando is one of Inti-Illimani's perennial favorite songs. The composition of Samba Lando, according to "La cancion en el sombrero" by Horacio Salinas, is a three-way effort by Jose Seves, Patricio Manns, and Salinas. And the lyric ought to be on the Mudcat Forum. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Samba Lando From: keberoxu Date: 25 Dec 16 - 03:26 PM No accent marks are possible in the thread title or subject line; but note that the song title / chorus actually has a written accent. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Samba Lando (Inti-Illimani) From: GUEST,keberoxu Date: 26 Dec 16 - 02:11 PM This link is to a more recent live-performance video. This is a transitional personnel line-up of the band. Conspicuous by their absence are two of the three co-authors: José Seves and Horacio Salinas, who by this time had quarreled with the brothers Coulon and had abruptly left Inti-Illimani. The brothers Coulon are visible in this performance: Marcelo Coulon singing the second verse and playing rhythm guitar; Jorge Coulon on one of the Afro-Latin percussion instruments, and of course singing. Someone else who can be seen, wearing his hat and looking very dressed up, is also playing a cowbell: this is Horacio Durán, who elsewhere specializes in the "charango" which is not played in this song. The other band members, many of them, are a younger generation and were accepted into Inti-Illimani once the exile in Europe was over and they had returned to their native Chile. I do not see Max Berrú, who was one of the few Inti-Illimani members to leave on good terms with everyone; he must by this time have decided against stage performances, while coming to terms with both the deafness in one ear, and with his second family following re-marriage, with whom he wanted to spend more time and not be on the road touring so much. This performance is during a big annual music festival in Chile. Samba Landó, en vivo |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Samba Lando (Inti-Illimani) From: keberoxu Date: 10 Jan 17 - 01:34 PM an early "Samba Lando" video (probably Italy) Inti Illimani, in this staged video, dress in their youthful uniform of red ponchos. The first verse is sung by José Seves and Max Berrú. The second verse is sung by Marcelo Coulon and Horacio Salinas. The third pair in the video are Jorge Coulon, singing solo at one point, and Horacio Durán. They look so terribly young. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Samba Lando (Inti-Illimani) From: David Carter (UK) Date: 11 Jan 17 - 09:06 AM I am interested. I don't have anything to contribute, but I read the posts and watch the clips. I didn't know anything about this group apart from Flight of the Condor until reading keberoxu's posts, but the traditional music from other parts of the world always interests me. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Samba Lando (Inti-Illimani) From: Monique Date: 12 Jan 17 - 05:23 AM Btw, 2nd verse, 3rd line is "Para dejar de ser cosas" (to stop being things), 2nd verse 4th line is "Dijo" with a regular "o" ("decir" is an irregular verb), 3rd verse 3rd line is "Como si fuera basura" and last verse, 2nd to last line should have only one "que". (Sorry, I was a grade teacher!) About the song having a copyright: it has no "copyright", it has "author's rights", which means they don't have to register it to claim authorship and royalties. They've published it, it's theirs unless someone can prove otherwise. Which doesn't mean people in "author's rights countries" don't register their works to avoid being ripped off, but there's no such thing as "copyright" registration or copyright renewal. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Samba Lando (Inti-Illimani) From: GUEST,keberoxu Date: 13 Jul 22 - 01:48 AM Sadly, co-author and fellow Chilean Patricio Manns has died, possibly of COVID-19. |
