Subject: RE: Mikal's Uncle Joe is gone... From: Mikal Date: 12 Dec 99 - 12:15 AM Damn, sorry, the machine is still giving me fits. This morning, James Joseph McLeod, father, shanechie, and teacher passed from this world and joined the army of St. Michael. His fiddle is to be given to the first child in our family that shows promise in playing. He will be cremated and his ashes buried in secret, as he requested. I will bury them this next Sunday in the hills of North Missouri, where he hunted and played. Joe had no sons, and I was his surrogate. For this reason, I will be absent from the 'cat for a while again. Thank you for your prayers. Mikal |

Subject: RE: Mikal's Uncle Joe is gone... From: katlaughing Date: 12 Dec 99 - 01:07 AM Mikal, thank you for letting us know. I am sorry for your sorrow and loss. May he go with the god of his faith and yours. And, may the next one in line for his fiddle be imbued with his spirit for music and love of family which he obviously had. kat

Subject: RE: Mikal's Uncle Joe is gone... From: Night Owl Date: 12 Dec 99 - 01:26 AM I am so sorry for your loss, Mikal. Please post again if you want to talk about him. |
Subject: RE: Mikal's Uncle Joe is gone... From: bseed(charleskratz) Date: 12 Dec 99 - 03:34 AM Mikal, I tried to post to the working thread but got an error message. I saw a reference to your uncle's death in the "Songs that make you cry" thread. I take it for granted that he was important to you (or you wouldn't have mentioned it here). I'm sure your best memories of him will in time fill the void left by his passing. Keep the memories, you keep the man. --seed |

Subject: RE: Mikal's Uncle Joe is gone... From: Susan A-R Date: 12 Dec 99 - 10:35 PM I've been there recently, and will be thinking of you. The hole in life is large, although spirit is there, the physical loss is pretty surprising. Hold on, and I hope that a fiddler emerges soon to carry it on. Susan A-R |
Subject: RE: Mikal's Uncle Joe is gone... From: Mbo Date: 12 Dec 99 - 10:41 PM My condolences to you and your family on your loss. But have faith, I hear that God still has an opening for a fiddler in his angel band. My his music be eternal... --Mbo |

Subject: RE: Mikal's Uncle Joe is gone... From: MMario Date: 13 Dec 99 - 09:08 AM Mikal - at times like these one realizes how blasted inadaquite the English language can be. My your Uncle Joe's music live on through you and others of your family. I've said it before, I will probably say it again, but the harmonies and echoes linger past the sounding of the note. MMario |
Subject: RE: Mikal's Uncle Joe is gone... From: Mbo Date: 13 Dec 99 - 09:21 AM Mario, you and I both put 'my' instead of 'may.' Collective unconscious? I know how you feel, Mikal. I recently lost a great cousin who was a concert violinist. I bet Uncle Joe and Cousin Guido are making sweet music in Heaven right now. I hope that someone in your family WILL take an interest in the fiddle, and carry on the rich tradition that your Uncle left behind, and also that someone will continue telling the stories and history he told. The loss of a shanachie is always painful, like a whole library of rare books burning down, but I'm sure that you and others will tell the tales to your children, and your children's children, so his legacy may continue... --Mbo |
Subject: RE: Mikal's Uncle Joe is gone... From: Mikal Date: 14 Dec 99 - 12:59 AM This is "Mikal's" brother Daniel. Joe was Mikal's teacher in storytelling for years. He spent damn near as much time with him as he did his own family! To tell the truth, you would think that Mike was his son, not Edward. Joe's death is very hard on Mike. If he would just sit and drink a beer with friends and let the stories start to pour out, he would be able to cry. It will probibly take a few weeks for that though. Thank you for all the letters. I have printed them out for him, and will take them to him. He is not anywhere that a computer could go right now. He would not like me saying this, but Mike is not doing too well health-wise. He will be in for tests come Monday. His liver is not functioning to full capacity. But leave it to mike, he refuses to have the tests until after he has completed Joe's wishes. Sometimes I think he was born in the wrong century! Daniel |

I am very sorry to hear the news about Mikal's health and wish him only the best possible outcome. I am sure he appreciates you and your concern. Please keep us posted. This must be a very difficult time. I hope he cna come to the point where he does open up and share with you and friends. all the best, kat |
