Easter 2017 - Folking About in Hiraethog/ Denbigh Moors

[Free DIY Music & Song Sessions Event]

The 8th glorious year's grand venture in wild Wales presented by Mr Happy enterprises will be taking place once again this Easter in Hiraethog aka The Hills of Longing, North Wales.

At Easter, Mr Happy & the Gloom Band [from Chester] plus many other musical friends, will be off to the Sportsman's Arms Inn, LL16 5SW [01745 550406] for our annual singing & music event –

Sportsmans Arms Inn

It'll be on from Maundy Thursday 13th April until Tuesday 18th April 2017

It's set up just like a folk festival but without any concerts or stuff you have to pay for.

Also 'cause everything's on site, there's no need to wander the streets looking for a session.

The Sportsman's is a new venue which can offer up to 3 separate rooms/ areas for different sorts of seshes – singarounds, folk club, mad Irish diddly thrash, seriously non-smiling English music, dreary French tunes, Old Timey/ Bluegrass, maudlin unaccompanied dirges, etc

[Please note that this event is not a Folk Festival. There are no paid acts.
All music & song is unamplified & purely acoustic]

All welcome - come on down - it'll be brill!!

The campsite will be available from Thursday 13th April until Tuesday 18th April 2017

It's a DIY do- bring yourselves, voices, instruments ,your tents, vans, caravans & kitchen sink!

It's all FREE!!

FREE camping! - Big field overlooking Denbigh Moors, for tents, caravans etc

No need to book camping, just turn up.

Up to 3 separate rooms available for various types of music & song
+ outside beer garden overlooking the hills & lake.

Session/Singaround Thur nite/Fri nite/Sat afternoon & evening/Sun afternoon & evening
- either in pub or on campsite, weather permitting.

Similar on bank holiday Monday, if many left [or haven't left!]

Campsite facilities include cold water tap!!

& cold water WC - not to be missed!!!

Some additional hardstanding for caravans/ campervans at rear of pub.

Just being nosy but is this a move from Anglesey or a extra?

I'd not make anything but years and years ago for the short time I had 2 wheels (with an engine, not cycling) I used to love my occasional Denbigh Moors run - from Llandudno(ish), Llanwrst way and back along the coast. And yep have had a drink in the Sportsmans Arms.

Does anything remain of the old hunting lodge up that way?

Whatever hope you hae a good event.

Oops, did it again!

Due to the non availability of the Bull Bay Hotel in Anglesey which has been sold for redevelopment, I've arranged a new venue for our happening next Easter.

On Facebook, I wanted to change the event page setting to public but fb's constant & inconsistent rule changing disallows this.

To alleviate this problem, I've now created a duplicate page version that's public.
New public page here: Folk up the moors!

Only 11 days to go!

Here's the venue, showing the hard standing areas for caravans & camper vans: The Sportsman's Arms Inn, Bylchau, Denbigh Moors - 25th March 2017

A soundbite of our impromptu sesh, recorded on a customer's phone, on Sat afternoon, 25th March with Mr Happy & the Gloomband:

The Stockport Washerwoman!

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR CAMPERS: DRINKING WATER

The pub's water has a slight yellowish tinge as it is drawn from its own underground well but is perfectly safe to drink and the well water is tested regularly by Welsh Water to ensure its quality.

Stop Press!

Up to the minute news, [a minute amount!]

As the numbers of participants reflects the need for some some separate spaces for different kinds of seshes, sinarounds, mixed music & song & music onlys, diddlys x2, mournful French stuff etc, there'll be a Mini Marquee arriving on Friday.

I was at a gathering last summer where this was used & it's entirely suitable for our needs, can accommodate 20+ players et al.

We'd welcome some help putting it up, please

Jojo & Trevor,

You'll be very welcome!

Here's some news from the venue:

Leon Gierke Hi...to keep you posted. The barn is fully operational (stage included and bar!) Hay bales tables and chairs etc and ready for some music.

The bar area is also yours to use as you please.

Food will be available from breakfast to evening tea with lunch available too.

Menus and specials will be updated daily veggie options being made this week.

I've ordered a ruck of real ale from purple moose (Porthmadog) and heavy Industries (henllan) which is lovely.

Up to you if you want a marquee etc, I'm happy for to use it but just thought I would let you know about the barn too.

Also....Thursday & Monday

We will be opening the bar Thursday evening 5pm and food 6pm.

Feel free to come whenever you like Thursday.

We're all excited and very much looking forward to you guys coming. I have lots of staff on so if you need anything over the weekend or before hand please let me know.

Thanks Leon.
