I have organised two narrowboat holidays for music lovers in June 2017 on the Grand Union canal from Napton (near Coventry). This is not an advert for a commercial venture, it is essentially a holiday on a cost sharing basis for music lovers. We will be hosting acoustic music sessions in various venues as we travel along. The trips we did last year were huge successes so if you would like to join us on one of these get in touch. For more information email cneil727@yahoo.com, or join our Facebook group and leave a post. Here is a link

A bit more info
Crewing and skippering the boat, working locks etc will be optional and always with guidance and, if necessary, instruction from an experienced narrowboat skipper with commercial boating experience. Food for meals, inc full breakfast, lunch and evening meals is provided for. In the daytime food will be prepared on a communal catering basis. Each evening we will be dining at the venues we will be visiting, the cost of the vast majority of these meals will be included in the cost of the holiday. If preferred, as an alternative to eating out, there will be plenty of food available on the boat to make a buffet meal.

Each evening the boat will moor up close to a welcoming canalside hostelry where the option to enjoy a delightful session of music and song in a relaxed atmosphere will be available. The venues for the sessions are all confirmed.and the publicans and their customers are looking forward to our visits.

The boat has five cabins all accommodating two people in each cabin. However, I do not intend to use the forward cabin as a sleeping area as this would involve converting the seating area into a bed each evening and then converting it back again each morning as this is also the dining area. Therefore places are limited to eight people on each trip.

All beds are of the fixed type with sprung mattresses. None of the berths are of the bunk type found on many multiple occupancy boats. Two cabins include a king size bed with adjacent toilet facilities, there is another cabin with twin single beds that can be combined into a double bed and a further cabin that has twin single beds. Each cabin has a 240V electricity socket and all bed linen is provided.

The boat is fully equipped with regard to safety, and incorporates central heating, which hopefully we will not need to use, electric shower, two fresh water toilets and fully operative galley including cooker, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, sink, pots, pans, cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery. The lounge salon has LCD TV and a CD/DVD/Mp3 player. The boat is also equipped with mobile Wifi. However, TV and Wifi reception can be variable depending upon where the boat is at any particular time.

Public liability/third party insurance and a damage waiver for the boat is included in the cost of the cruise. Vehicles are parked at the marina in a secure car park free of charge, but with the usual disclaimers regarding liability. Holiday and personal insurance is at your own discretion.

Total cost including boat hire & food
3rd - 10th June £250 per person
10th - 17th June £250 per person

We have our boat out the first 2 weeks in June moored at Wigrams Turn. Depending on times/route etc might it be possible to meet up at one evening?

That would be great Flora G. I'll post a list of dates and venues nearer the time. Not much point posting them now as unfortunately in these hard times pubs can close down etc.

Due to a cancellation, there is now just one single place, in a cabin with two single berths, left on the first trip, 3rd - 10th June available. As a cabin mate of the appropriate sex can be arranged, the place that is available would be suited to a male or a female. The holiday is based at a marina in Napton, near Coventry. We will be going down the Grand Union canal to Northampton and Stoke Bruerne and back. Each evening we will be hosting a musical session at prearranged, convivial waterside hostelries.

I am also running another holiday in September, based at Autherley Junction, near Wolverhampton. On this trip (16th - 23rd) we are going down into Worcestershire, including going down the River Severn, passing Stourport, and beyond to Worcester itself before making the return trip to Autherley. There is another trip the following week (23rd - 30th) going up into Staffordshire, but this holiday is already fully booked. Availability is very limited as some people have already booked who wanted to come in June, but missed out because they didn't get in touch with me quickly enough.

I have not widely broadcast the availability of these holidays on social media as yet, but I will be doing so in the next few days. So if you want more information with a view to booking I would advise doing so at your earliest possible convenience. Contact me by email to cneil727@yahoo.com
