Subject: RE: Cornucopia of 1960's Brit. Folk From: Gavin Paterson Date: 03 Nov 17 - 08:55 AM I have most of the above shows but I missed My Kind Of Folk from show 37 to 80. If any kind soul saved them, I would love copies. I'm happy to send anything from the lists by way of return. Let me know on the thread and we can take it from there. Thanks..... |

Subject: RE: Cornucopia of 1960's Brit. Folk From: GUEST,Frank Scott Date: 06 Apr 17 - 04:11 PM I've downloaded everything that is still up but I think there are some earlier ones that I missed because I only found this thread in the past few days. Any more uploads of 60s and 70s radio or TV programs would be much appreciated. I hadn't realized how much stuff from that era was being broadcast. I recently downloaded from usenet several Richard Digance and Friends shows from either the late 70s or early 80s. I listened to one with Martin Carthy and The Watersons which is great music but seriously marred by flutter in the tape - however it does have a great version by Martin of "Sheep Crook and Black Dog" which, as far as I know, is not available anywhere else. If people are interested I can try and upload them. Does anyone have a good database of these folk shows? The Genome site seems very limited - they only list 18 "Folk On Two" shows. |
Subject: RE: Cornucopia of 1960's Brit. Folk From: GUEST,Guest Date: 06 Apr 17 - 09:58 AM WeTransfer has its own downloading (and uploading) processes. Its the fastest we know of. BBC is not interested because the genre is 'folk' - period. And don't forget the Down Home and Radio Ballad series of films. |
Subject: RE: Cornucopia of 1960's Brit. Folk From: GUEST,Frank Scott Date: 05 Apr 17 - 08:49 PM Thank you so much. I just realized that my problem was that I thought I would simplify the process by using a download manager (Jdownloader)which should pick up all the links but seems to only get one from each group. If I go to the the WeTransfer page all the files are there. My apologies for bugging you and I really appreciate you putting up these invaluable programs. I'm appalled to hear that the BBC has no interest in acquiring copies for their archives - how short sighted. The people in these programs have made significant contributions to British culture including many who have influenced succeeding generations of performers. Since the EFDSS is putting so much information on line might they be interested? Or perhaps the British Library Sound Archive. |

Subject: RE: Cornucopia of 1960's Brit. Folk From: GUEST,Frank Scott Date: 04 Apr 17 - 06:26 PM This is a fascinating thread - it's too bad I only just found it as most of the stuff has gone. I have the Folk On Two Shows and a few of the others but missed most of the My Kind Of Folk shows. Is there any chance you could upload them again. Would it be possible to arrange it so they are up longer than a week? Is this a limitation of the file hoster or a slf imposed limitation. I got the Folk on Two shows from usenet so if you have suggestions for a particular group where I might find the other shows that would work too. It looks like you have some wonderful stuff. I'm of the opinion that if no one is making a profit then there is no harm and from the folk artists I've met over the years I don't think most of them would mind and, in some cases, would be glad of additional exposure. |

Subject: RE: Cornucopia of 1960's Brit. Folk From: GUEST,CJB Date: 28 Mar 17 - 09:27 AM Hi - it would be great to have ree-reel / cassette tapes uploaded here. The way to do it is: 1/ Send a zipped file to WeTransfer.com emailed to yourself. When this arrives copy the download link to a post here. It will be good for 7 days (as a blue clicky of course). 2/ Create a free Mediafire.com account, then create a folder under 'MyFiles' say 'Folk Archive'. In this create other folders for the files you want to share. Then upload the files to these specific folders. Then share the links to the folder 'Folk Archive' or the specific folders here (as a blue clickies of course). When digitising tapes don't forget to lift the volume - but avoid clipping. You might need to adjust the speed (and pitch) to match the original transmission. This is especially critical with cassette tapes - many recorders / players did not run true. Normalise the digital version. Then Save As FLAC, WAV or MP3 (320kbps). CJB |
Subject: RE: Cornucopia of 1960's Brit. Folk From: GUEST,Brian Grayson Date: 28 Mar 17 - 01:22 AM My goodness gracious me - such a treasure trove on here! I have cassettes and open-reel tapes of various clubs, recorded between 1970 and 1976, some of which I've transferred to digital, mostly mp3s. The Enterprise, Friday Folk (the one south of the river), Hammersmith, and more. If anyone's interested I could make up a list and arrange to get as many as you wish to you, if you can tell me the best way to do it... Thank you, thank you, thank you for all your contributions. I'd love to pay the favour forward. briangrayson@iprimus. com.au (or on here) |

BTW if you can improve the sound quality please feel free to have a go. But we aware that if a file is recorded in say MP3 128 kbps and then saved in say MP3 320 kbps or FLAC or WAV - it is still just a 128 kbps MP3 file. That's called entropy. |

We know this because a folkie found them, rescued them, and digitised them. But then he faded from the scene. The link is to a set that are now unique survivors. 1.5GB worth. https://we.tl/65sdW0Ti1E Genome will tell you whose on them. They have been digitised at 128kbps. They may have to be redone at 192kbps. But this will take time. Most suffer from a cassette turnover event after about 45 mins (likely during Tony Foxworthy's folk events round ups). Enjoy!! |
