I sometimes have a hard time believing it myself, but my wife and I will be married 29 years on Saturday evening, Dec 19. We will spend a few days (and probably too much money) on the Riverwalk in San Antonio, over the weekend. I am not sure why this should be posted in a thread ... I guess I just couldn't keep it to myself!

PS: are there any folk clubs in San Antonio?

Twenty nine not out, not bad.

But back in July on our anniversary, I was out with my wife Anne, feeling a bit smug about having survived 35 years marriage. Then we ran into a couple who'd done 60 years. We felt like rank amateurs.

Would you care to ruminate on what it is that makes an enduring marriage? Just curious.

Was on the Riverwalk back in '83, for an all too brief span of time. Always wanted to go back. Best wishes for an enjoyable excursion. Please be our eyes and ears and report (sans the intimate details, of course *BG*) at your leisure upon your return...I'd be interested to hear if it's still the way I remember it.

Heard a good one the other night--friend of mine claims she had a gig at a 50th wedding anniversary, and the husband was not very much with it, and in particular hard of hearing and too proud to wear his hearing aid. Part way through the festivities, the beaming wife went to the microphone and told hubby, and the the crowd:

"Honey, I just want to say that I'm proud of you."

Hubby: "What?"

Wife: "I'm proud of you!"

Hubby: "WHAT?

Wife: "I'M PROUD OF YOU!!!!!!

Hubby: "WELL AH'M TIRED OF YOU TOO!!!!"

Liam - I'm not that familar with San Antonio { I'm in Ft Worth} but I remember a few years back that there was an excellent Mexican singer at a Tex Mex resturant called Pico De Gallo. It's just a couple of blocks off the freeway when you turn off to go downtown to the Alamo { you DO remember the Alamo - don't you??} Even if he isn't there they have great cabrito. The other place I'll suggest for breakfast is Mi Tiara. It's at the market.

I seem to recall there are some house concerts in SA - try checking out www.houseconcerts.com. And it may not be too far to drive to Gruene Hall if thats your taste. You can always check out their pictures on the wall of Lyle Lovett with short hair.

By the way - I found out that Tom Paxton is coming to a coffee house here in Ft Worth next April 1st. Let me know if you are interested and I'll get you some info.

Wesley - I am very interested in hearing more about Tom Paxton. I had an opportunity to open for him at the Idler in Cambridge Massachusetts, several years ago, but had to turn it down due to a prior committment. I assumed, at the time I'd have other chances. I've kicked myself ever since, because I moved away shortly thereafter, and did not kept up with performing, until very recently. But who knows where the road will lead, now ...

I don't know about folk clubs, but when I was in San Antonio a few years ago, there was a pub right on the river walk called Dirty Nellie's where you can certainly find some of that "vile black stuff" to toast the occasion. Congratulations!!!

Congratulations . . We celebrated 30 not out back in September, with a gathering of friends from across the years, and are currently enjoying a visit from our best friend from 29 years ago (and who we've not seen for 5 years).

Perhaps you'll enjoy the following quote from Peggy Seeger's web site:
