I was very sorry to hear this news. Val was a stalwart of the folk scene in this corner of the world as well as a good friend. She lent her good humour and deep throaty laugh to many a session. She loved others to join in her songs and enjoyed life to the full.

RIP,

Peter

Heard from her family that Val passed away this morning. She was a mainstay of the Suffolk 'round-the-room' sessions for many years; in particular many visitors to the 'Eel's Foot' and Ipswich 'Golden Key' will recall her white 12-string guitar and love of country songs. She controlled proceedings often armed with a sign that said 'The Boss!', and preferred to play in the key of 'A flat -ish'.

After she was widowed, she lived alone in a little bungalow with no television and a radio that was rarely turned on, instead surrounding herself with guitars and banjos, and travelling fearlessly to far-distant pub sessions in her little white car. Her many friends will miss her immensely.
