Just came across an interesting 1959 Topic recording, "Vivien Richman sings folk songs of West Pennsylvania". Anyone know anything about her? Thanks!

Album was originally a Folkways release. Its booklet, with a short bio of the singer and background/lyrics for the songs, is a free PDF download here: http://www.folkways.si.edu/vivien-richman/sings-folk-songs-of-west-pennsylvania/american-folk/music/album/smithsonian I don't have any personal knowledge of the singer.

If you google this singer you can get a fair amount of information about her. She was a friend to Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie. Art Thieme recorded a song he got from her on his album "Chicago and Points West". Selections from two of her recordings can be found on YouTube. She died in the 1980's.

Vivien had a good strong voice. Her album on Smithsonian Folkways is quite interesting. Thanks to Babypix for calling it to our attention. Wish I knew more about her. Perhaps some Pennsylvanian Mudcatters could be of assistance.

There's a YouTube channel for Vivien Richman:I think Most Folkways recordings are now available on YouTube, and the notes are at the Smithsonian/Folkways Website.

I wasn't able to find any biographical materials vis a vis friendship with Woody and Pete, but found this:
