Subject: Multimedia CD ROMs ... where to buy? From: Scotsbard Date: 15 Dec 99 - 04:25 PM Since the folk here seem well aware of where to find unusual musical items, does anyone know where to find a good selection of interactive CD-ROMS. Anything from classical to folk to blues would be welcome. Reviews I've read at iconjohn.com and other places sound very interesting, but I've had no luck actually finding the discs. Thanks, ~S~ |
Subject: RE: Help: Multimedia CD ROMs ... where to buy? From: Joe Offer Date: 15 Dec 99 - 11:14 PM Hi, Scotsbard - the best I've seen is one from Smithsonian Folkways called Crossroads: Southern Routes (click). The CD on its own is a nice collection of 16 cuts of some really wonderful traditional music. Put the CD in a computer, and you get text and photos and maps and video. Such a deal. There's one CD-ROM in the 6-CD set from Smithsonian Folkways, Harry Smith's Anthology of American Folk Music (click). the music is great, and the additional CD-ROM material is pretty good. Another good one is from RCA, Beginner's Guide to Jazz (click). If you put this on in your computer, you'll get pictures and extra recordings. That's a start. Hope it helps. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Help: Multimedia CD ROMs ... where to buy? From: Scotsbard Date: 16 Dec 99 - 11:39 AM Hello, and thank you. Those links were right on target. I'd found a couple of classical and rock, but no folk or jazz so far. Replacing an enhanced version of Simon's Graceland (stolen along with the CD player, darnit) that got me started on looking for other genres. Thanks again! ~S~ |
