Jon Mac, has been booking me for decades at the club, and unfortunately June is the last month of the clubs' existence. After 40 years it is closing down. If you are within striking distance please come along and support the night. It will be great to see you and my privilege to sing for you.
kind regards
Nick

I can tell you that Nick is a very generous person who doesn't make cash his priority. A gentleman and ace musician.
It'll be a great gig, don't miss it ☺

Every performer has a right to be paid an agreed fee.
If and when club organisers decide to not fulfil their part of an agreement, it is time they packed it in.
Nick is an excellent performer and a gentleman as you have said, but that is not the point.

It was a successful and friendly gig. I loved every minute. My voice was a bit tired I think it was the 10th gig in a row, give or take a day or two. Time for a rest. That said , Alex please let me know where and when your singers club is and I'll come down with my better half

I first played this club in 1976, and have played it many times for a small fee
The last time I played it I was underpaid sixty pounds, I

If a person has an agreed fee, it should be paid.
I had been warned by another performer about this club, but because of my previous ok experiences, over 35 odd years,
I foolishly thought it will not happen to me.
I do remember,The organiser buying a cd and saying to me you are welcome to come back if you are prepared to pay for crap money, needless to say I have not contacted him for a gig.
The organiser clearly has no intention of paying me the amount agreed, a great pity because up until this point I had been happy to play the club at reduced fees, to try and keep the cub goin
Nick if you were ripped off, how would you feel?
There is no reason not to stick to agreed fees.

If the organiser sends me 60 sterling, i will donate it to the salvation army who in my opinion do a great job.

Thinking about it I have taken less than the agreed fee a couple of times when I realised that it would cause the organiser genuine hardship to find the money, and organising a club can be pretty thankless. I am genuinely sorry that you lost out Dick, best to put it down to experience, and your charitable offer is laudable.

There is no reason to not stick to agreed fees, is that clear.
The organiser bought a cd off me so there was not a question of not being satisfied with performance, if that is what you are driving at.
I know that I am not alone in having been underpaid at that club.
Nick,How would you like it if you were underpaid, would you then like it if I asked you was there a reason, your curiosity is unwarranted ,do you understand.
I repeat the organiser bought a cd,what does that indicate to you.

Sorry about that Dick! When I mentioned a reason I should have said excuse. It never entered my head that you had done anything other than your usual quality gig. I was just imagining you being paid £40 instead of £100 or whatever it was, without any explanation. What on earth was said to you in justification, when there really is no justification as you have said. So no offence and sorry for the misunderstanding.

In the same area there are other clubs that are well organised and pay the agreed fee and deserve support, hopefully they will continueto be well supported and the people of that area will not be deprived of folk music.
In the 1980s I contacted an organiser in Kent "Julia Winn", and was told that the club was only paying 35 pound to guests, my rate at that time was 50, I foolishly agreed to do it to try and help the club, then the incompetent organiser sent back a contract for another artist, which was for 50, this was sent by mistake to me.
This other artist was a very good friend who played guitar on the "lp DunmowFlitch".
I surprised the organiser by ringing up and saying hi ,i got a contract in the post, trouble is it was for someone else who is getting 50, and you said everyone was getting 35.
What upset me was the dishonesty, and attempt to exploit me.
In fairness, these are two very rare occurrences, the vast majority of folk club organisers are decent people who do a great job.
In fact I appreciate that Jom Mcnamara gave me all those gigs over the years[ at small fees that I agreed to], but am saddened by the spoiling of it all on the last occasion.

Last time we played there Mac said "the money will be rubbish, of course" but we already knew that and he lived up to his promise.

We didn't mind, as it's only 45 minutes away from home.
It was mostly a club that guest performers booked to fill a gap in a tour, unless, like us, they lived locally.

I'm sorry we missed Nick's gig, though.

So, you agreed to a low fee that is up to you
But that was not my experience, we agreed 100, a reduced price for a tour, we did not agree 40.
100 is still a low fee especially for someone on tour, from another country.
other organisers in that area are happy to pay 150 for people on tour.I think that those people are more worthy of support.
Anahata what you do is your business,I am talking about agreed fees and honesty, sticking to what has been agreed.
"It was mostly a club that guest performers booked to fill a gap in a tour"
I know all that, I was playing the club back in 1976, and have played it many many times.
I have a pension of 100 sterling a week.B
