Subject: Lyr Add: The Bread Song (Frente Music Collective) From: Joe Offer Date: 04 Jul 17 - 09:02 PM THE BREAD SONG (Frente Music Collective) Bread, where does it come from? You find it on the shelf with a paper bag on It comes from the ground and a factory too Takes a whole lot of work just to get it to you CHORUS: From the sun and the air and the water and the land Lots of working people and lots of working hands From the sun and the air and the water and the land Lots of working people and lots of working hands Lettuce, where does it come from? You find it near the pickle in a hamburger bun Someone picks it from the ground That's a lot of hard work and a lot of bending down (Chorus) Hamburger, where does it come from? You eat it with mustard and ketchup on A cow eats some grass and gets all fat Takes a farmer and a butcher and a cook for that (Chorus) Ice cream, where does it come from? You eat it on a cone with sprinkles on It used to be made from sugar and cream Now they put in junk like gasoline (Chorus) words and music by Frente Music Collective ©1977 Eastbay People's Music Notes: This children's song was written collectively by the Frente Music Collective. Several members of this San Francisco Bay Area group were daycare workers and wanted to write a song about food that "talked about more than farmers and cows." The Frente Music Collective grew out of the Frente Cultural de Trabajadores de Nuestra America (Cultural Workers Front of Our America), which was formed in 1974 in Mexico City to unite progressive musicians, writers, actors and artists from both continents of our hemisphere.
